Cincinnati Boating
We're considering a relocation to the Cincy area. Is there any advice anyone can offer regarding the area and what boating is in the area and what areas you may trailer to and how far away those are?
|
Lake cumberland is the best area. Its about 3 hours away...HUGE lake HUGE partys :)
|
If you don't go to Lake Cumberland then you can run the Ohio River with the rest of us. Ninety miles from dam to dam. The best bar on the river is Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club, sometimes call the goat bar. Its the hangout for all the go fast boats on Saturday afternoon. Plenty of good looking women on Friday night with live bands every weekend. See ya there.

You have to watch out at the goat bar for the Powerquest named Blonds Preferred. That guy is pretty wild and loves to buy everybody drinks all night. I heard he is really loaded. :drink:

Ohio River...there are a number of marinas in Cincinnati. We relocated from Michigan and ended up keeping our go-fast on a hydro-hoist at Four Seasons. You can also do in and out service at Rivertowne or trailer to a ramp. There are some really fast boats on the river.
|
As the previous have posted 3-4 hours south to Cumberland or 3 hours north to lake erie. We also have the Ohio River which has some great hot spots just not as clean for swimming and cooling off! Early and late in the year a lot of us get together for informal "shootouts" at a couple of small reseviors all within and hour.
Tons of options and a LOT of Hot Boats around!! |

Does this mean you will not hear me idling up and down the St Joe. river anymore from a mile away ?
You will love Cincy. My home town for 30 years. Milford actually. I'm now stuck in the corn fields of Indiana. Lots to do in Cincy. The fireworks from your boat are incredible just make sure the kids are asleep about the time it's over because it gets crazy. My mom and sister live there and I still go down allot so if you need any more info send me a PM and I'll try to help you out. |
Pretty much what everyone else said!! It is not too bad of a place to be.
|
great place to live and boat Suggest the west side bridgetown, cleves (north bend) harrison. nice and laid back

I don't know about being loaded with the stock market in the shape it is. Took a pretty good beating in January but by the time summer comes I will be OK. Needs to get backup so I can afford the fuel and drinks this summer. Are you going to the boat show in Miami? Leaving thursday morning from Cape Coral staying in Ft Lauderdale until Sunday want to meet up if you are down there? Been at the townhouse since January 4th staying until March 30th then heading home. Steve |

I've been in Cinci area for 5 years now, but can't say I've boated here yet. But, that'll change this year:D
I'm sure it'll be a lot different than what I was used to on Erie. |
Barges, currents, logs, dirty water - we go over the Ohio and just keep driving to get to Cumberland - one of the finest lakes in the country. There are many marinas to keep your boat at but the west end of the lake is bar far better. Cumberland is clean and deep.
But if you don't have the 3 hours it takes to get to Cumberland then the Ohio will float your boat - but it'll have a scum line on it when you take it out :) Put it this way, Cumberland is full of people from Cincy, Columbus, Indianapolis and Louisville who have tried boating the Ohio and much prefer Cumberland. |

I would expect you to be running North to Michigan or Erie from Indy.

Btw, I was born and raised in the greater Cincinnati area - Erlanger, on the kY side. My family spent many a day boating on the Ohio. We enjoyed it until we found Cumberland. :)

Mich is too darn cold, Erie is too darn erie when bad weather crops up. People who have boated darn near everywhere say there is nothing quite like Cumberland. The only drawback is the lack of bars on the water - but there is just as much partying done on the docks. The marinas have covered slips and many people spend the evenings on their boats at the docks. It's worth checking out for those who have never experienced it.
Loved the Maumee River, and playing out in the bay. Ever been to Woodtick Island?? The weather is part of the challenge on Erie.

Living in Hebron now. I've been to Cumberland, and it still doesn't match up to Erie for me. It's nice, but it's not like running Erie. It's scary, yet very relaxing when you can get out on the water and not see land in sight. All the BS that is back on land doesn't exist out there. If the boat sank, you wouldn't even know which way to swim. Cunberland - heavily patrolled by the fun police, and you don't get the solitude of just you and the water. Very different experiences. |

I've never even considered the river. I just keep the boat down on Cumberland, but if you're the trailering type, there's plenty of good lakes within a half days drive. |

I grew up boating through my teens and twentys with quite a few houseboat trips and I can say my friends like to have fun and of being on the lake most weekends I have only been bothered twice and never had anything come of it just asked to settle down a little.
I know Fun Police are on heavy patrol that weekend. But it's not like getting up to the great lakes. I like getting the boat out to some water that you can't see land from. And then you see weather coming in. That's when it get's fun. Weather is gonna break soon - you still gonna come help me wrench on my boat??:D |

Todd - My experience is from only being there once, and it was on a friends boat for the Poker Run - so my perception of it may be skewed.

http://www.holton.smugmug.com/photos...33_5kcAa-M.jpg I'm not a major partier, I'm just a drinker.:D See, on Erie no one will f-with you. I like Cumberland, but it's not like running Erie. |

The river can be OK...No rain this past summer. could see 4-6 feet down. Cumberland is OK. just sit and party. Go to Erie to run "offshore" type waters And go somewhere new everyday. Great places to hangout with great people |

That's not true in my case--I'd 10-1 rather boat on the river. It's closer to home and there's less "attitude" from the other boaters than there is at Cumberland. After the first of June, it's usually very clean and the current is usually not too noticeable unless there's been a big storm. It must be A LOT more scummy up river than around the Louisville to Warsaw pool--I harldy ever have a scum line unless it's early in the season. The lake is nice for a couple visits each summer, but give me the Ohio anyday!

You gotta boat around Louisville sometime. There's a couple of pretty good boater hangouts (Captain's Quarters, T-weed, Cunningham's on the Creek) and more and more hot boats each year.
