Default 22 Donzi with Volvo, any good?

My 16 is just a little bit too small. As i idle down the intercoastal it leans so badly to the right (my side) it's embarrassing! I'm Looking at a 22 Donzi with a Volvo Penta 7.4 engine with a
Duo-prop Volvo counter-rotating outdrive. Is this a good package? Is it as dependable as a Merc? Any idea what kind of speed to expect?

DuoProp on a boat with as narrow a beam and as much vee as the 22 Donzi might not be a good idea. Sea trial it first. Also ask the same question on donzi.net,the guys over there know pretty much everything about the Classics.

it is a fantastic drive (and engine) and VERY well suited to narrow beam V's. we run them on all the Batboats and hard chine to hard chine is only about five feet or so. Its is one of the most durable drives out there, very depenbdable i would trade my Bravos in a heartbeat for a pair. what model Volvo drive? DPX i assume, the boat will run like its on rails.

Will be interesting to find out more details. The 22 Classic is my favorite Donzi, sold them for several years, always big block Mercs with Bravo 1's.Gino may have found a sleeper.Wonder what the model year is,as I don't recall any Volvo boats when we were a dealer.

I agree, i did a ton of work for a local Donzi dealer and they had the whole classic line on the floor plan. Their 22 was blue and grey with matching eagle trailer, boat was awesome. There is also a 22 Blackhawk edition running around here. I believe the boat runs in the upper 70's

Yeah, kind of amazing that after 40+ years the Classics are still around, basically unchanged. The Blackhawk 22 was interesting, they had to make a new hull mold with rocker in it for the Blackhawk to work, boat was not very user friendly, but today, still a desirable boat to have if you can find one.

Actually, the first year of the 22 Classic was 1981. Donzi made a couple other models a couple years before that with the same 22 hull. I have a pristine 1982. It has a TRS drive. They made a few with the Volvo drive, which I wouldn't hesitate to own, if it was in good shape. The only 22 I'd stay away from, would be a small block with the Alpha drive.
