Need Pics of Scoops: and mounting

Just seeing who has a scoop on there engine hatch/sunpad ans how they are mounted looking for ideas and help on getting on my boat. I want to keep the sunpad and make it look like it was factory. Only im not sure exacally how to go about it. And info/pic is much appriciated

YOu can see mine in this photo a little. I really like the look. They are sleek and don't consume the pad so much. I think I posted a better picture in the Cigarette forum, you might want to search, but that was from a different computer and I don't have that picture with me.

This is a low profile Harwood type scoop mounted onto a former blower hole in my 21 Cig .... let's just say we used a little 3M 5200! It worked really well covering the big hole in the middle of the hatch vs. a goofy looking little pad.

heyn mike have an under side shot of that

Go see Ernie's boat "BOXER". Right near you in Rehobeth. He has a nice fitting scoop.

Ill post a pic later - but on mine I removed the sun pad and then cut a hole through the hatch then cut through the ply wood in the padding and then cut and stapled the vinyl to make the hole. I looks great. Problem is keeping people off of it so it wont crack.

I did a hatch and scoop project last winter . Local fiberglass guy made my scoops [ similar to a Harwood scoop ] that I cut down to be low profile . I've got stainless steel screens front & back to keep critters out .
Cut the holes in the deck to set the scoops inside and fastened them with a zillion screws , instead of using the flange . Added extra layers to the scoops to make them strong enough to even sit on . When I set the scoop in the holes , used filler to get rid of gaps , before finishing the deck with epoxy paint .

I can post something next Tuesday .... I'm on a trip and my laptop doesn't have that shot .... here is the before pic ... big improvement!:D

Ditto on the "keep off" at least the one I had would have cracked if you stepped on it .... so you had to be careful when folks were hanging out on the engine hatch.

Stay tuned ...............

Yea im looking to do the same you did with th cig. i want to make the material look nice style and not hacked up like i just slapped a scoop on it an just let it go. On that formula do you have a pad or is it all fiberglass i want the pad also.

Looks great, How does she run?:cool-smiley-011:

spectras only 02-17-2008 09:32 PM

My best was 74 mph at 5000 rpm with Bravo 1 26P props so far. 3 blade 27P Mirage Plus may net a few more , but I like the hook up and acceleration with the present setup. The boat is pretty heavy for its small 25'7" size around 6500 lbs + added gear . It ran 85 at 3/4 throttle in the past with twin stroker 383's with superchargers .

Chine walked quite bit , but K-planes and Marine Machine external hydraulics were added later . I've also changed my props rotaion inwards and the boat runs pretty steady as you can see in the second video .
Haven't seen a Tantrum in person yet , but heard good comments about them running great in rough water.
What size is your boat and what power ?

25 ft. , 3900 lbs with a stock 502/415 w/Gil exhaust and a K&N filter. Has run 71mph light on fuel and a nice 1-2 ft. chop.

Where did you get the SS screens? Did they come with the scoops? I must say the scoops and paint job look great.

Perlmudder 02-18-2008 03:00 PM

what kinda performance gains can you expect from scoops? or is it mostly for looks?

spectras only 02-18-2008 03:25 PM

There are two reasons for scoops . Ample air if you have superchargers , secondly keeping ambient temperatures
cooler in an enclosed engine compartment with exhaust vents to expel hot air quickly . If your girlfriend/wife loves to lounge on the back deck it's totally useless ,heh .

I guess I don't have any pics of the underside ...... I only had the engine in those pics and framed out the hatch underside. It wasn't real pretty since the hole in the hatch was bigger than the bottom hole in the scoop, I just decided not to cut out either anymore than they were ... it worked well for the purpose of cosmetics!

Sick Stinger 02-18-2008 04:23 PM

The point of my scoop is to force air right into the flame arrestor . The engine bay is not large enough to hold the motor i swapped out so i needed a hole in my hatch. Thus a scoop was nessesary for the optimal air and to cove the hole.Hey GHL 1. That is one bad azz Cig. 2. is the hatch and scoops molded as one. The way mine is set upi need to put it on seprate and cant mold it together so i want it to look best as possable. Thanks for all the pics and keep them coming its given me great ideas and help

AIR TIME 02-18-2008 09:08 PM

we have to blind staple the vinly up against the scoop so if its not bolted yet let me see, I will meet you at lunch time to look at it we may have to glue a wood strip to staple to cover paint it west system or paint ,trim padding to so when its done it looks factory:p:D peg leg:grinser010:

Sick Stinger 02-18-2008 09:56 PM
