Intercoms?

Is any one using an intercom system other than Dave Clark? If so what kind and how are they. I have a 28 Skater with too much wind noise and it would be nice to talk to someone next to me.

Xchoke03 02-27-2008 07:15 PM

Pirate has the best systems / service I have found in doing a Ton of research. Many OSO bro's will vouch for them.

I have heard good things about this new company...... I think they go by the name Pirate......someone will chime in about them.........I was thinking about trying these out but not to sure how they would handle heavy wind and possibly have some interferance from the motor.........

Pirate headsets are probably what I would get.Met the owner at the show and he was way cheaper with better quality than race communications.Nice discount for OSO members!

OL40SVX 02-27-2008 07:23 PM

Pirate com all they way. Donzi is now using them in their boats!!

Xchoke03 02-27-2008 07:24 PM

I have also met the Pirate owners and they are awesome business men, really stand by a product they believe in and I have no problams recomending them to anyone.

SOX 02-27-2008 07:25 PM

Tested out the Piratecom at the AC boat show. I was very impressed. The owner is a real good guy too.

R Addiction 02-27-2008 07:26 PM

What was the discount for OSO?

I use a sigtronics system and we have 0 problems, portable runs on 9v or cig lighter 5 years I think we've used it. Way less than anything I've seen advertised. We can plug it into the i-pod, stereo, phone or whatever and we've taken it with us through 3 boats.

Regardless get behind head headsets and good wind muffs. No question however, david clark is the gold standard.

Vinny P 02-27-2008 10:07 PM

I have Revolution Marines system. At first, I hated them. The wind coming through them was ridiculous. After I took apart the mics, I found holes in FRONT of them, directly facing into the wind. A small piece of electrical tape covering the holes, cured the problem. Now they are nice and quiet. You would think they would have thought of that.....

omerta one 02-27-2008 10:14 PM

I esearched many of the systems out there and ended up choosing the wireless setup from Racing Communications...they work great without the hassel of cords.

Pwrbt33 02-28-2008 05:59 AM

Ditto on the Pirate systems!! I tried them out in a 43ZR at the factory and I was very impressed.:D Music pumped through the head sets and then you could talk over it. Nice stuff.

gerritm 02-28-2008 08:02 AM

Has anyone used the Comzilla wired system?

ToMorrow44 02-28-2008 08:10 AM

I have Comp Comms in my boat. A question for some of you out there, what style headset do you have and how do you keep them from coming off of your head at high speeds?

I am installing a Piratecom set in my Comp. They are a great set, with a great price, and you can deal directly with the owner. They are doing a 10% off for members just by mentioning OSO. A four person Xtreme hi-performance (100mph) set up is $1900 with the OSO discount. It includes interface with stereo, vhf, cell phone, Ipod, etc. Their install rate is a flat fee of 300 if I remember correctly.

johnlomant 02-28-2008 12:34 PM

I have the pirate com xtreme series and love it great quality and good price. I paid 1900 for four person setup

dreamer 02-28-2008 02:59 PM

reg 4 person is 1495 w/ 3 way interface for piratecom system

Shanghied Again 02-28-2008 05:49 PM

I to did a lot of research on the Piratecomps, Best price best sound and I like the idea of everyone being able to talk without that shutdown sound you get with some of the other headsets,

Great question! I have the same problem!

gerritm 02-29-2008 08:44 AM

I have been talking to Comzilla and they make a chinstrap that will keep them from blowing off.

What is the difference between the reg and the xtream?

omerta one 02-29-2008 09:42 AM

I have not had any problem with the Racing Communications headsets even being remotely loose and have run triple digits with them on.

shoregasm 02-29-2008 10:17 AM

I have sigtronics.

The sps-4sn: $275
http://www.sigtronics.com/air/spa_4s.html
-
It is the high noise environment one. It comes with two different panel plates. One for vertical mount and one for horizontal mount. It only requires 3 small holes to munt in a panel. The barrels (headset plugs) Are loose and need to be mounted to a mounting plate. I used the mounting plate/cover for a radio shack project box for $2 each. They are 1 x 1-1/2 black plastic with four mounting holes in the corners and chafered edges. You drill two holes in the center for the barrels and place them in the boat near the seats. Another nice thing is the music dims down when you talk.

Micmuff from oregon Aero: $14 ea.
http://www.oregonaero.com/p747576_2001.html
-
A must have for total silence.

Av Comm AC200 headsets: $98 ea.
http://www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/sep/1473
-
These are great because they are all stainless and plastic construction. They work great but they will fall off your head at around 90mph in a boat with a low fairing and no wind deflectors. I use small goggles over the headset which holds them in place.

total for 4 person was $731 + 30 for misc wire/supplies.

System works great. At first I had a little bit of wind noise at speeds above 80. Not bad, but I wanted it silent so I ordered the micmuffs. The ones that come with the headsets don't work as good.

Install is a little easier than a stereo system. Expect around 2-4 hours depending on skill level.

I've been trying to tell people that aviation set ups are way cheaper but they'd rather spend hundreds or thousands more for the same system repackaged with 'marine' in the title:(

This is what my invoice lists:

#90015 / MicMuff - Electret Type Mic ------Price $13.00

There number is:
800-888-6910

I know the muff is specific to the boom on the headset I listed. If you tell them what you have they will give you the #

Von Bongo,

I agree, My system is dead silent with no shut down noises. Plus the music dims down lightly without a cut off type sound. I have yet to have a problem with it.
