Tech Question Re: Prochargers Boys..
I have a Cobalt 272 open bow that has a 496 ho with a bravo 3 x drive 1.81 gears...If I install a Procharger M1-SC, would I HAVE to upgrade my drive and would I have to upgrade to hydraulic steering? engine has about 60 hours on it and is stock otherwise. Also, how much would a used procharger go for? any ideas? oh yeah, the unit would be set up for 5psi.
Any info would be extremely appreciated...
Thanks
Scott

Scott, you will want to avoid Procharging a stock 496. Internals will not take the boost. You are better off looking into a Raylar kit for your motor. Plenty of info on this in the tech section. If your transom looks like what I think it does, I'm not sure you have room to install external hydraulic steering. Won't be necessary unless you get the boat running 70 MPH or above. The Bravo III X should live if you are kind to it. Might want to consider moving to a Bravo I if you are looking for top end.

Prochargers are not just a bolt on and go. Everyone thinks so but people that have been running them with success have a lot of time and work involved. This is my third rebuild running a PC. It's always something. There are plenty of threads and knowledge on this board to help. Half assing it means no dependability.

I've got prochargers on my 454's. Everything I've read says you don't want to mix a procharger with a stock 496. I think procharger themselves will discourage you. The 496 is not that tough internally.
