HTM won't give back the deposit !!!!!

I friend of mine put a 5k deposit down on a new HTM. After all that has happened to the company HTM said they won't be making anymore boats. He's going to fight them for his money back. He also said that he saw almost all the molds outside in the yard. Looks like there closing up shop. He had to go buy a Eliminator for 100k instead. Any insite?
Thanks,
Rick

nautigirl 02-15-2002 08:48 AM

I thought I had heard that they were going to keep going??

thunderdan 02-15-2002 09:51 AM

I also hear the same thing?

KCHOTBOAT 02-17-2002 02:12 AM

I heard several people are interested in buying the company. At this point everything is rumor.

Mr Gadgets 02-17-2002 10:19 AM

WOW!
What a shame... I hope someone will take over and keep the HTM on the market. I know if I had the money I would look into owning a boat company.. that would be way cool.
I can imagine that the family is in deep shock over this whole tragedy. They may just need some time to sort things out.. Lets hope so, hate to lose a good boat company...

Dick

supercrash 02-17-2002 10:58 AM

My lawyer would be up their ass ten times a day...The word out of the camp was that they would continue...now they are keeping peoples money and closing up shop...Hope this is not true...because this is something that could really tarnish their memories.....

kchotboat...said it ...rumors everywhere..
is someone going to buy the company?
company in financial trouble before the accident?
company closing after accident?
company will continue?
no seats in boat?
no life jackets on board?
More than double the limit?
many rumors about the breakup of the boat?

Like scarabrick said any insight to any of these rumors.
can any of these questions be answered yet?

One thing is fact..it would be a shame to watch this company fall off market because of this..somebody needs to pick up the company and carry on the name and boat.

Roy 02-17-2002 03:29 PM

I have not heard of this yet but I will find out. I just spoke with someone that just received a video and info packet. Hope it isn't true.

KCHOTBOAT 02-18-2002 12:03 AM

Crash where did you read they had no seats in the boat? I have a hard time believing that one if they where planning on making some high speed runs.

Scarabrick
Several years ago I looked into taking a out of state boat builder to court and found out real fast it would cost me more than I could get.

MnFastBoat 02-18-2002 12:34 AM

I remember back when I was first looking at cats and tried out a couple HTM;s

Buddy was telling me to buy it bad.
Reason is not because he liked the boat.
Because the initials would work with my name

H- Hugh's
T- Throttle
M- Monster

:)
:D

Like someone else said, it would be awesome to OWN a boat building CO. But alot of work has gone into this company and a very tragic event can cause alot of things to go wrong

I am sure alot of people can remember when Harry Christianson was killed a few years back. :( I am so glad that Advantage continued on in his memory and grew strong.

I think someone will step up and continue HTM's great ways in honor of those who strived for so long.

MIKEHTMSR24 02-18-2002 12:51 PM

Hope this helps set the story straight

Just talked to my buddy here in SC today after I read this post. He has an HTM also. He talked to Lia (Steve's wife)@ HTM today. She said they are still building boats and have no plans to stop building.
I hope that this post was some kind of screw up in communications and not done deliberately to hurt HTM in carry on with their business. They have enough on their minds.
Their business # is 661-268-1309 if you are considering an HTM. They are good hard working people and a pleasure to deal with.
I have been a happy customer since the day I took delivery back in Jan. of 99!!!

SeaDated 02-18-2002 12:54 PM

Always someone triing to starting rumors.

birdog 02-18-2002 02:21 PM

Best of luck to the HTM family! I hope Scarabricks buddy gets his problem worked out.

Roy 02-18-2002 03:28 PM

HTM Still Up and Running

Talked to the factory today and HTM is still building boats, and have no plans of stopping or selling the company. If your buddy didn't get his deposit back it is most likely because he backed out. They are busy trying to restructure but have absolutley no plans of halting productions!

Mr Gadgets 02-18-2002 03:41 PM

Well I am personally glad to hear that HTM is sticking with it. I leuw of a public anouncement from the company, a phone call by one or more of the board members is all I need to keep the info accurate.
Thanks guys for putting the rumor mill to rest!! I am sure HTM will continue to be successful in their business!

Dick

bdnw8450 02-18-2002 04:56 PM

Hope that the HTM group keeps up the good work as mike has attested to. His boat is quality thru and thru.

STONE 03-09-2002 11:35 PM

BUYER BEWARE OF HTM

HTM WILL NOT GIVE MY DEPOSIT BACK EITHER... NOT VERY GOOD BUSINESS...TO DO BUSINESS LIKE THAT.....

jbrauer 03-10-2002 06:28 AM

Stone: Why do you want it back?

cashmoney 03-10-2002 07:10 AM

Stone where are you??What are the details?

Payton 03-10-2002 08:45 AM

You know, I'm always a little suspect of anyone that in his first few posts comes on here and makes offensive posts, with little or no info. When long time members say that have called the company and they say things are running as normal as they can.

I'm not ready to take Mr Stone's post as gospel.

jbrauer 03-10-2002 09:09 AM

Amen Brother Payton, Amen!

FWK 03-10-2002 09:26 AM

I agree with Too Old. if you contracted for a boat and it is in production that is to bad. Your deposit gives the boat builder assurance that you are serious about having a boat built and if they start and you decide to back out they have something for their efforts. If there is a delay in production because of the trajic loss of family and the major entities of a company that does not give you the right to back out and get your deposit. If production has not started on your boat I would understand. Please post the specifics. Forrest

Fever500 03-10-2002 09:29 AM

I am sorry but this thread really hit a nerve with me.

After all the HTM crew has been through, the last thing they need is a couple of BOZOS posting crap like this on the Internet.

H2Xmark 03-10-2002 10:21 AM

man you guys are right, stone better change his name to STONED
give those people at HTM a break, they deserve it. Mark:mad:

Audiofn 03-10-2002 10:36 AM

Yes definatly need more specifics on this one for sure. There are always two sides to every story so lets see if we can get some more info so we can all make a more edjucated judgement.

Jon

Fever500 03-10-2002 10:41 AM

Hehee.. Audio... you done spelt edjumecated wrong ... I thought it was kind of ironic.... that's all. :D

Really though. I am sure there is much more to each story if, in fact, they are remotely true. My whole issue is with the timing of it.

Audiofn 03-10-2002 10:47 AM

The synapsis are still not conecting in my head. I will leave it as I was laughing my ass off when you pointed it out LOL the Irony that is my LIFE!!!! LOL

Jon

thunderdan 03-10-2002 11:42 AM

Is it possible that Stone does not know what happened to the HTM family???? :(

thunderdan 03-10-2002 12:15 PM

You are probably correct troutly, just trying to understand., and looking for the best in people. Sometimes it is very difficult.:(

GRH 03-10-2002 12:20 PM

I agree with TOO OLD... If you contracted to build the boat & its started.... its yours or lose the deposit.... maybe STONE is concerned with the quality of the boats being built since the tragedy.... and maybe I would be too.... but I'd have to give HTM the benefit of the doubt after what they've been through AND based on the reputation they've established for quality as well as performance... further... I'd be understanding about any possible delay as well... I've never meet anyone anymore passionate about thier boat then me... but it is a boat.... These people lost FAMILY.... STONE... tell us your WHOLE storey... or keep it to yourself.....

STONE 03-10-2002 12:51 PM

We are very aware of what has happened to the HTM corporation, but our issues are still valid. My wife and I had a bad experience with the company and thought people should know. Our problem with the company stems back to August and we have waited patiently for resolution. We are still trying to resolve the matter with HTM .

They still have my $2000.00 deposit and We would like it back.

I agree they do have bigger fish to fry, so why dont they send back my deposit so we can both move on....

thunderdan 03-10-2002 12:53 PM

Stone,

Have they begun production on your boat. When did you order it and when is it scheduled to be done.

Fever500 03-10-2002 01:04 PM

WEll I don't see any NEW info in the latest post from Stoned... Just more bashing without details. It kind of takes away from the validty of the post.

What's the story, there, STONE?

Miller 03-10-2002 02:45 PM

I wasn't going to comment on this thread but now think it's appropriate. Stone has not yet provided any information about his dispute with HTM, so I would be inclined to disregard his comments at this point. If there is a problem than stop blowing hot air and state the facts as perceived. Don't waste our time with innuendos.

What boat did you order? When was it ordered? When was it scheduled for completion? Has the boat been started? Why are you unhappy? At what point did you notify the company that you wanted to cancel the order and what was the response? What were your reasons for cancelling the order? What steps have you taken to date? Where are you in the process of resolving the dispute? Who at HTM did you deal with?

These are simple questions that Stone should be able to answer. If not, than I suspect that his story is full of holes. We'll see what kind of response we get.

H2Xmark 03-10-2002 05:01 PM

Well:confused:

Stone I'm not for ya. I'm not mad at ya either. I can understand why you don't want to answer our ?'s. Out of respect of keeping it between HTM and your family? If this is the case then why in the H did you even post! Seems two faced to me.

Roy 03-10-2002 08:42 PM

I've always known HTM to want a $5000 deposit. Why was yours only $2000

skat 03-10-2002 08:45 PM

No one likes to make waves and based on what has happened to HTM bashing is wrong. I am a long time reader and do not feel the need to comment very often either. That does not make my information any less valid. I will give you what details I know of another bad HTM report and follow it up with serial numbers and dates if you like (not tonight). My neighbor here on the lake (I live in AL) attended the CA boat show last year and ordered a boat from HTM. Many headaches, bad feelings, and missed dead lines later he received his "New" HTM 24. He had up graded to a B-MAX for the HP he had in the boat. The first time he drove it he ran it into his boat house. Keep in mind this is an experienced boater, his drive hung in gear. He got little help from HTM on his drive problem and took his boat to FL to be fixed. The B-Max boys told him he had a used drive. Not only was it used, it was one of the first they built before they started serializing the units (the first 3 or 4)! HTM hung up on him and denied his drive was used. Finally they admitted it might have been a rebuilt drive but not a used drive. He asked if they would explain the difference, after all he paid alot of money for a new drive. If the tragedy had not taken the steam out of him, he would be sueing HTM now. No bashing, just the facts.

jbrauer 03-11-2002 06:18 AM

Skat - did your freind with the HTM used to have an Awesome cat?

skat 03-11-2002 07:38 AM

Yes, that's the friend. I believe he still has it for sale.

cashmoney 03-11-2002 08:06 AM

Now skat..That is something that will make your blood boil..I really doubt that was the first time they did that , It is probably commen pratice. We can call that FRAUD or THEFT or whatever you like. But it is just plain wrong..Arguing with HTM over a deposit is one thing but outright defrauding a paying custumer in this very competitive market could be suicide.I would love for HTM to give a explanation that would straighten this out but seeing that they already admitted to the fraud then that probably won't happen..
Hope your friend sues them silly
