IMCO 2" Shorty on 2000 Model 26' American Offshore?

Has anyone ever used the IMCO 2" Shorty on 2000 Model 26' American Offshore? If so, what were the pro's and con's?

IMCO 2" Shorty on 2000 Model 26' American Offshore

The boat planes really well with a 32 pitch, Bravo One, four blade. It will not plane at all with a three blade, it blows out. Unfortunately I do not know my prop slippage. I also have a 1-5-1 gear ratio, however plan to change to a 1-34 gear ratio. Any suggestions?

What kind of power are you running? I have a 1999 26' AO and running 1:36 thru a bravo I with a lab finished 32 " Bravo four blade. Did you pick up speed with the 2" shorter drive??

IMCO 2'' SHORTY on American offshore

I have a 540 Merlin with a 8-71 supercharger. I turn it 6000 rpms with 1.5.1 bravo one. I blowed a hole in the outdrive. I have not upgraded to the imco drive yet.

If you get on plane well then I would try the 2in shorter. You can always add a spacer and make it a 1 inch drop if the 2 in is to much. It will help if you have 1.36 so you can use a smaller pitch prop. The larger the prop the more slip.

If you turned 6000rpm with 32" and 1.5 drive, changing to a 1.36 drive will only save you 10% and drop your rpm to 5500. I would consider a 1.25:1 drive ratio and the 32" prop will get you 5000rpm. If you get on plane easily you could probably tolerate a 2" shorter drive. Look and see where the drive nosecone is relative to the bottom. You can be even or 1"above the bottom.

Hi Cat N Around,

If you would like, I can probably shed some light on your boat if you could give me some informantion. You will need a tape measure.

I need to know where your prop shaft centerline in relation to the bottom of your boat, when your drive is in neutral position. The easiest way is to use a long straight edge held at the bottom of the boat ( you may need to get a buddy to help) and then measure the difference from the bottom to the prop centerline. Let me know that and we can give you a good answer.

Thanks

Scott

Hey There Fast Cats,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I have blown my out drive apart a few months ago, and have sent it off for repair. They have notified me that they do not think it is worth repairing. It has a bad upper and lower case, so I can not measure it and give you any of the specifics you requested.

I was thinking of buying the Extreme Advantage SC Drive by Imco, to replace my old one...but I had a concern about the compatability of the 2" Shorty with the Extreme Advantage. So, if you could shed any light on the pro's and con's on these items being used together it would be helpful. However, if you need the specific dimentions then I guess I am out of luck at this time.

Is it a 2600 or a NSX?

cat n around 02-16-2002 08:08 PM

It is a NSX

FASTCATS 02-16-2002 08:18 PM

I won't be back until Monday a week from now, but as soon as I get in, I will look for notes on your x deminsion. Email me your serial number.

My propshaft centerline is 1'' below bottom of the boat.
Thanks for the help

merlin540 02-19-2002 12:57 PM

:D your nsx can stand a 2"short lower and it will pick up speed but prop will blow getting on plane a bravo 4 blade will be more forgiving than a hydo 4 blade. dont know about the hydo 5 blade yet i have some ordered for my 31 ao that im rerigging hope this helps. JUST ORDER IT!!!!

FASTCATS 02-19-2002 08:32 PM

Hey Cat N,

Get the 2" shorty if you are 1" down but also get the 1/2" spacer, that will put 1/2" up, which is the best spot overall for the 26. Call me next week and I may can help you with the price, good luck to you, and let us know if we can help!

Scott:)
