Best Way to Strip Outdrives?

Hey guys my outdrives need a good repainting so I want to strip them down and repaint them in mercury black...So what do you guys think is the best way to take the old paint off?

I might do black/silver I don't know..

Lett me pull them off and you can blast or sand them in youre garage and then hang them or put on engine stand I will lend you one, call me.

I'd lightly sand the original paint and shoot over it if possible. That original paint is hard to get off and is 200x more durable than any paint you put on it. It'll make for an excellant base.

Well if we are going to do that then we should do new seals and an impeller while they are off to right?

The drives are powder coated. The best way to get powder coating off is the same way it went on- heat. Take them to a powdercoater and let them put the drives in their oven- 400 degrees or so should do it. The stuff will just fall off. Plus, you'll leave the conversion coating that's applied to the drive for anti corrosion intact. Sanding or sandblast will remove it

Are you sure that Mercury powdercoats their drives? I was at Mercury Racing for a tour last spring and they said that they did'nt powdercoat but painted them.

Konrad powder coats, mercury does not.
