Edmund Fitzgerald
This is a really touching Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald. Just finished reading the book. Sad story.

I agree. I remember when that happened. I also remember the memories it triggered from the limited time I spent working aboard a couple of different oil tankers in '69.
Very sad. |
Nice, thanks for sharing. The Fitz. remains impressive even by todays standards. Great Tribute

The Carl Bradley went down in Lake Michigan in 1958 under similar conditions and a greater loss of life.
The only difference is Lightfoot didn't write a song about them. Also the Bradley had one survivor. |
Good Point, both tragic! The Bradley was only carrying water as ballast. It was said that the boat litteraly broke in two before faultering.

Just started reading "White Hurricane" about the big Great Lakes storm of 1913 that sunk 19 ships, including several 500+ footers. Some scary stuff. Another book - "Freshwater Fury" covers the same storm.
Makes for great reading...especially right before launching on Erie this spring. |
Agree - very sad and great tribute. What a song!
I have a limited edition print of Edmund Fitzgerald 1 of 6 done by artist (forget name) and signed by artist and Gordon Lightfoot. Will show the clip to my kids so they can try and understand how it could sink - baffling really, but that weather paints a picture. |
Kinda spooky!

I am going to see Lightfoot in concert on Friday.Gordon Lightfoot has had some very seroius health issues. I am glad to see and hear him continue at what he does best.
Terrific song writer. Been a fan of his since 1968. |
