POKER RUN AUCTION IDEA'S / I Need Your Help!
I need some ideas for items for our auction.
The guy that was in charge of the auction last year collected autographed sports items, although they were nice they just didn't appeal to us boaters. So he has ask me to put together a list of items for him to try and collect. So lets hear your ideas:D 100% of the proceeds of BoyneThunder goes to charity. Not just the auction items. |
If you can get support from local business you can offer :
Winter Storage, Fuel Cards, & Towing Get support from manufacturers and auction: An embroidered upholestry, a paint job, an intercom or stereo, crew uniforms.. Tax deductable gifts for the chance to get new customers |

If you think these would appeal to anyone, I can send you some.
They are the new 8 X 10 flyers for HORBA and they can be framed for shops or garages or boathouses. |
dock lines, life jackets, pull up cleats, medical kits, tool bags with tools, Restaurant gift certificates, cleaning supplies - speedy metal polish, swipes , motarized blender
Anything that every boater needs for his boat. Hope that helps. |
Leverage polish,metal serum,ect.

I can give you an idea AND some stuff... I'd be happy to send you out some product you can put into the auction.
How about a few sets of these!? http://www.bluewaterinnovations.com/fs.html |

Tax deductable gifts for the chance to get new customers Plus hit up some of the boat manufacturers and supporters of this website. You give them free advertising by handing out flyers of all the "supporters" and putting up any banners they provide. In return they give you free stuff to raffle off for charity. |
A couple that I've been to that got a good response, a leather Harley-davidson Jacket, TV, matching dock lines, embroidered towels and the biggest bidding ever was a battery power toy Caterpillar tractor. Two neighbors with way to much to drink started telling each other they were going to buy it and dump sand in the others yard, I think it went for $1500.

Thanks Guys,
Your items would be very welcome. We try to do everything we can to help the kids. You can send them to the address below. We will also send you a charitable donation receipt, just tell us how much. By U Boy, If you send the item you you mentioned in the post you deleted you might want to mark "PARISHABLE" on the box. Otherwise she might get a little ripe. lol:D Boyne Thunder 112 South Park St. Suite F Boyne City, MI 49712 |

Or B) something that someone who has had a few drinks just MUST have, like a puppy. Have a cute girl walk around the event with the puppy. Another good one is summer car lease for a fun car. They don't have to store it, depreciate it, only insure it for a few months. We had a local car dealer donate a 3 month summer lease on a mustang convertible, and it was so popular that the auction guy stopped the auction and asked the car dealer (in the moment) if he would do two if the top two bidders both stayed in. He said yes. They both got the deal. Regular "stuff" doesn't seem to do as well, because it is more logical, and less emotional. You want items that elicit an emotional response. I wish you luck. I have seen some members have new signature that really discourage people from trying to help the kids, but I think that you are great for doing this. Some of my best memories are from these kind of events. Seems like the compensation comes in other forms than money, but as I am sure you know... a generous heart leads to a richer life. Best of luck. |

If memory serves, there was a minimum of maybe.... three months worth of what the lease would have been..... $1,000 maybe $1,500.
It went over well. The thing that I have noticed is that if there is already a hobby/sport "focus" (ie: boat event, golf) people don't go for stuff related to that. In other words.... at a high end golf event... people already have what they want to play golf with. With a high end boat event.... I would expect people to already pretty much have what they need/want. What you provide as a boating accessory wouldn't be the right color, size, type, quality, whatever. The items almost NEED to be non boat related (again, unless it's exclusive. Like a ride with a legend in a boat set up by a legend. There needs to be that element that you can't buy.) They already have coozies, lines, fenders, flares, coolers, etc.) |
JB: please feel free to PM if there is anything that I can do.
Again, good luck. |
Exactly...I agree non-related boat items would be the hit

I like the idea of the convertible. I didn't know you could get a 3 month lease on one.

Would you consider "used" boat parts and accessories? I don't mean junk stuff. Good to great to new stuff. Many of us have stuff packed away that we will NEVER use. Can't get crap for it and trying to sell it is just one big pain. Then the haggleing just really gets to me.
Goes like this: A person "donates" a part and gets the write-off as a donation to a charity auction. Part placed on the auction table and someone gets a part for something waaaaaaay under what it is worth. Buyer gets a super deal, seller gets a write-off and the charity gets the loot. Deal? |

Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that the very best auction items are either A) experiences that people can't buy. (ride on the medivac chopper, grand marshall at local parade, date with somebody, vacation at private condo, etc.) These seem to be the things that people who "have everything" go for.
