I run merc hp. If I switched I would probably use Mobil 1. Most of the specialty oils are made from mobil 1 base stock, then add their own additives. Amsoil does I think, and probably Royal Purple also. Basically I think they are all high quality and you probably can't go wrong with any of them. Its like choosing between Lambo or Ferrari. I prefer a lambo, but not because it's better, I just like it. I tested side by side comparisons. 6000 rpms 1200 hp, amsoil in the port engine and moblie 1 in the starboard,26 degree differance between the two. Swaped oils from one port to starboard and the differance followed. I was hoping they would hold the same temp its alot cheaper when your not paying shipping and can purchase moblil 1 from any autostore. I run Amsoil in the engines, drives, transmissions, power steering and trim pumps. Also Amsoil makes many different levels of synthetic oils at the same weight.Big money difference!! |

I run royal purple for years , Other than just plain breaking a shat or housing the drive gears and bearings looked good. But the oil allways smeld burnt. I run verry hard !! I change my drive oil every other oil change. There is no filter in a bravo. so I beleve the more you chang it the bet. I have put 260 hrs on one pair of drives with 500 efis in front of them. But still dont like that burnt smell.
