I run Royal Purple after having drives built up by Mr. Gadgets. It was his recommendation.
I change oil twice a year. Only put on 15-20 hours before changing.

That is the one product I would never use. It doesn't even meet some specifications. Read the following, and you probably wouldn't either.

From what I understand Jason there is no one in Texas that can build hi-perf drives bravos that is.When someone has to send their drives for rebuilds then its no wonder you break drives. But then again, I have seen a boat that keeps coming back with the same drive breaking cause the owners son does'nt know how to run the boat. But merc drives are designed to run with merc hp oil. If you do change your oil to a different manufacture, make SURE you clean the monitor bottle and the line out before going to a different blend of oil.

I run royal purple but that's what Konrad says for my drives. I changed it after 10 hour break in period. It was so clean, it looks like I could have sold it as new.

Usually is I would think. Beyond minor wear and tear there isnt any lube thats going to save your drive from your power and or poor manufacturing of the internals that would lead to a shaft snaping or something. IMO run what the manufacutre recommends.
