No more forums (for now). Did things get too crazy over there? Maybe they all went over to www.boatered.com ?

Hotboat was sold from Larry Flint Publications to a new owner. The new owner(s) re-vamped the whole website and have removed the forums for the time being. From what I've heard they did not like the way the forums were being used and felt there was too much "pornographic type" of discussion, topics, pictures, etc. Supposidly the new owner(s) are somewhat religious based (that's putting it as P.C. as I can).

All the Hotboat people went to Performanceboats.com

To make things worse, this is the type of literature you will be reading...From the editor (hotboat):
(this is a ex-member of Hotboats post from another forum).

just got a new hotboat mag and was reading the thanks to the team part by the new owner, i'm thinkin ok maybe hes gonna do ok this time around. wrong. got over to the last column and bazammo, bash bash bash, shame on you i guess you forgot to take biz101 the part about not bashin your comp specially when your own site looks and works like CRAP. what a disappointment hotboat and it's new owner are. quote i scanned right from the mag.

Quote:
"As many of you know we have undergone numerous changes and for all intent and purpose I have always been told change is a good thing and something to be embraced. So while we are undergoing all these changes it's tough to go from zero (where the magazine was) to 100 miles an hour which is where we are trying to get with it. Magazine and website development are areas we are familiar with (yeah this is evident) and we only want what is best for this title and all of our readers. That is the reason if you attended the Los Angeles Boat Show, we rolled out our brand new booth and we also debuted our new truck and trailer. (that is what is best for all the readers, yeah well ok. wtf.) These are areas Hot Boat has been lacking in for years under the past ownership and especially leadership. It really was one of the main reasons for the new purchase. The past regime is gone thank goodness for that. (so what i get from that is that the new booth and trailer is one of the main reasons for the buy, unlike what is written down towards the bottom)

We felt that in order to fully grow the title into where we believe it needs to be we had to embrace the lifestyle that is hot boating, something that was never done in the past. Our new truck and trailer will be in attendance at over 25 poker runs, races, regatta's (typo), boat shows, and just about anything that is marine related where we can spread the joy of our new magazine. Please feel free to stop by and grab a free magazine. There will be plenty, as we want old readers to fully experience our joy as well as making it easy for new readers to become subscribers. (joy lol)

It is a blessing to have the old staff gone. While we miss a lot of our old content as do many of our readers, the new look and format has been a definite hit with reader's (typo) new and old, subscribers, and advertisers.

Those who lament the loss of some of the past staff must keep this (typo {in}) mind. It was this staff that ran this beloved publication into the ground for the past five years. It was this staff who forced Larry Flynt Publications to sell the magazine because if they didn't it was going to be closed for good, (i'm calling bs on that) something I for one and I'm sure all readers wouldn't want. Please remember this. Out with the old and in with the new.

So please sit back, read and enjoy this month's issue. I know you have many different choices for marine publications out there and all of them, yes all of them serve their own little niches, but after you have read several, please keep in mind Hot Boat (nice structure there) because it truly is on (typo) the only performance marine publication that matters." (winner of run-on sentence award lol)

i'm truly amazed. between the bashin and grammar / spelling crap, especially here and on the editor's pages.... wtf? is there nobody there that can proof read? 4 typos in 1/3 of what he wrote (and i might a missed some lol). i've been readin hotboat since the beginning and the above reminds me of the quality back when it was newsprint. hire a writer and copy editor for god's sake. there's obviously a need for both. maybe less smack on former owner who's doin a pretty f'in good job here and gettin your own mag and site at least back up to what it used to be. and what about those forums where everybody got banned, wtf? talk about throwin a good portion of your subscribers right in the crapper. from what i see this site has way better content, videos, galleries, loads pages like a rocket, and i like the mag here so far too.

Uh, er, the 'whole staff' didn't go. I listened to some of the plans and arguments, and I am still there. I don't know about the website, but the magazine has responded well to the reader. The wide format and non-disconnected editorial make it easy to read. For me, I think it is better than it was, by a lot.

I hated reading hot boat the past few years. They interrupted every single article, and continued them in the back of the magazine. It made it very annoying to read. I understand moving a part of one or two articles, but everything was broken up.

So I ended mid sentence in a review of the new fountain, had to flip and find page 89 or something like that, only to read 1/2 a paragraph more, and then flip for the rest. It was only good for the pictures.

Hmm, that discribes just about every porn mag I have ever seen. Seems they may do that just to makes sure you see more adds.
Brownie, I am glad you are still there and I agree with what you said. I already see improvments of the old mag.
