Anybody familiar with Victorville, Cali
Suppose to go to work their for about a year. Need some information on some surrounding lakes. Looks like Havasu is close!
Thinking about bringing the boat over if water is close enough! How about some help!! Thanks, Shawn:cool: |
I LIVE IN VICTORVILLE. IT IS ABOUT A THREE HOUR DRIVE TO LAKE HAVASU. THE OCEAN IS ABOUT TWO HOURS. HOT IN SUMMER, 105, COLD IN WINTER, IN THE HIGH TEENS, SNOW IS NOT VERY FREQUENT AND THEN ONLY A FEW INCHES.

Got desert?
Victorville is a just north of the Cajon pass (the first hill out of So Cal) . I usually fly past at 70 MPH or so (unless I stop at In-N-Out for a burger), so I'm not sure how much help I can be.
Vegas and Lake Mead is a couple hours up the 15, and like BOATAHOLIC said, Havasu is a couple hours down the 40. You won't want to leave Havasu, though. We usually store the boat out there, as the drive is much faster non-towing (70MPH vs 55MPH). Laughlin (gambling and Lake Mojave) is also a few hours down the 40, same route as to get to Havasu. You can also put your boat in on the river (about 45 minutes shorter than Havasu) in Needles (I like Park Moabi), and take the river down to the sand bar (through the Topack gorge), and on into Havasu. In the other direction. Victorville is a couple hours (mostly mountain roads) from a local ski resort. Also, like BOATAHOLIC said, a couple hours from LA, which means the Pacific Ocean. I like Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and if you got a big enough boat...23 miles to Catalina. It's high desert in Victorville, so it can get windy. Hope this helps. |
But you'll be close to Big Bear Lake! Only about an hour away. One of the most beautiful places in the world. (Snow ski in the winter, water ski in the summer) The SCSC used to hold it's annual Fireman's Benefit boat races up there. (The altitude is a killer though). But since it was so gorgeous up in the pine trees, and the big campfire and cook-out afterward was so much fun, we didn't care how much slower we were going! ;)

Jeeper's mecca
It's also a Jeepin Mecca- close to Johnson Valley which is one of the top 5 areas in the US to go. I'm leaving Thursday for a competition there- Uncle Toys is meeting me out there.

Sounds like bringing the Scarab with me is not a bad idea!!!
It would probably have panic attacks from not running in salt water though!! :D :D |
