Looking for good security system for the boat

My insurer has offered me a 10% discount if I put in an anti theft security system in the new Nor Tech. Can anyone make a recommendation ?? I would expect that it should have a GPS tracking system.
thanks,:D

Here's one that has been getting a lot of looks:
http://www.dewalt.com/us/security/mobilelock/

Apparently, it's a whole lot less money than a "marine-specific" make, and with all of the thefts in South Fla, well worth looking into.

No affiliation whatsoever, just something I picked up from another board.

I remember reading about a cover snap that would sound the horn when removed. You could also add a fuel shut off and a hidden switch for the hatch.

Thank you. Looks interesting. May not work for me as it is for USA only. While my boat is in the US 8 months a year it also spends 4 months each summer in Canada.
Any other suggestions? I would think there would be all kinds of them out there?

Hey Bob I have many different options that I am looking at right now as Scott offered me the same discount. I currently have about 4 different vendors I currently deal with in my business now selling to different types of clients. I will let you know which one will work best.

Initially what i am thinking is putting a cellular modem into the boat, hard wiring to the ignition and there is a small GPS receiver / antenna that I can place on the dash for clear shot of the sky. About $25.00 per month and you can go on-line anytime and get realtime updates. It will tell you where it has been, speeds etc. so piece of mind when it is being towed too.

I will give you a call later on......

It will be hard to find a GPS unit that will go very far into Canada. Not to say that it will not work up there, just seems that most companies stop tracking up that way..... I am sure there are a few that will work. I had a thread on this a while back I will try and find it so that you can have a link.

search feature is not working. If you want to try later I know that I started the thread and it was about alarms and GPS units.

Bob, Talk to Shaun that works for Nor-Tech. He sells a system that may suit your needs.

Bob, I recently picked up a set of remote controlled main battery switches. Kind of neat stuff. Uses a key fob to turn on and off the battery power. They could be installed on the main ignition switch feed line out of site . Won't stop trailer theft but sure would stop boat away theft.

Thanks Jay, Audio, Chuck and Sean. Audio, I tried a search yesterday but did not come up w much. I will look for your thread today. Jay - 519 498 6945 at your convenience.:D

Not only will you know where your boat is but it it is moved on a trailer the system has a thing called "geofencing" and can sense if being moved outside of area. Alarm goes off and you are notified.
A secondary thing is that you can disable the ignition "remotely" from any computer on earth. You can also see ona map where the boat is in "real time" so get the cops to grab up the bad guys!

Thanks ve3lt. That looks like exactly what I am looking for. Seems to be affordable enough as well. They are going to call me back in the morning to discuss.
Do you have a connection with them? I see you are from Niagara where they are located. I was born and raised just up the river in Fort Erie.
Looks like I will need to decide between this unit or the Trunk Monkey ! LOL:D
Again, thanks for your help.

Bob will call you later when i hear back from Scott as he is getting approval to add this GPS device to the list.

It is web access with geo fencing, full notification as stated above.

I talked to Scott about it and he intrigued because I told him it acts as a proactive system instead of re-active like boomarang for example.

Talk to you soon;

Jay

Thanks, Jay. I will know more after I talk with them tomorrow. I did not think to call Scott to see if they have a list of approved devices. I will let you all know how this turns out. OSO is a great resource and it's a bonus to have a few laughs along the way. ( Trunk Monkey ) :D
