Both are nice products but I am a big fan of headers over cast. If they are flushed and properly cared for they won't rot out. From a maintainance standpoint headers are easier to deal with, you can actually SEE you spark plugs.

I would be concerned with fit regardless of whos headers you pic. If you run tails they may not mate with your existing exhaust holes in the transom. Can CMI custom bend your tails or are you buying off the shelf. Off the shelf parts rarely fit they way you think they might.

Companies like Lightning and Stelling will ask for measurements before you buy. I know CMI will make tails to suit but it's an up-charge.

Mercury Racing, Ilmor and every world record and championship team runs CMI headers. I dont need to pitch them.

Email me at [email protected] about the brackets you need and send me your address. We pick our headers up at CMI, the other guys need to have them shipped in, that adds $$.

It has to be a true Bravo layout for standard tails to fit. If its a true Bravo layout, I'd go with Unitops. I wont post the price here as thats how the "other" guys met my price.
THE CMI ON MY 540'S SOUND GREAT

I have aset of SM Hi-Torques now and had a set of Gen III on previous boat. You simply cannot beat the fit, finish and overall quality. Good customer service as well. Cast aluminum will last longer, no question. I think the horsepower gains will be quite similar.

I agree Donman. It's not that the cast aluminum will out last the stainless because of corrosion. I think it has to do with the welds in the stainless tube that leak due to the constant contraction from thermal growth (hot/cold...hot/cold).
