Cats are Speed junkies-V`s beware

Tooka ride in Miami on a 36 Spectre cat.and it was the biggest rush ever in this sport.Rolf of Proroc was the driver and he showed me cats are not the squirley boats many seem to think. This boat accelerated like a vet on the interstate, straight line to 70 and 3500rpm we took a tight turn powering out of it and went to 105 in seconds.I presently own a Donzi ZX,but after that on 3 ft chop my next boat will be one of these true PERFORMANCE MACHINES.I urge all V owners who have never been on one give it a try,you to will become a speed junkie looking to mortgage the house, hitting the kids college fund, dumping stock to put one of these in your driveway.

:D :p
LET UP FOR A SECOND, AND THATS WERE YOU`LL FINISH!!!

Evil Twin 02-19-2002 08:29 PM

And thats why I am not going to go for a ride on a cat!!! If they are a good as you say they are I would have to check my self into a Offshore Only Rehab clinic.

:D

blueamerican 02-19-2002 08:34 PM

I was a V-Junkie for 20 + years, but like they say, once you go Cat you'll never go back really sticks once you take your first cat ride. Yes they have their draw backs in big water, but for all around fun and great speed, "If it isn't a Cat, it's a Dog". Wouldn't you agree Fastcats.!!!:) :D

36spectre 02-19-2002 08:44 PM

What do you mean by big water draw backs in a cat? "If it ain't a cat it's a dog " is written of the transom of my boat. Whjere do you live? I boat near you and was wondering if I know you or your boat.

To each their own, but I think Hi performance Offshore boating is more about having fun in the rough stuff, not about going fast in a straight line or a smooth curve. When I think about going 120 with wind in my hair on a consistently smooth surface, I think BMW M Roadster. When I think 50-70 in 4-6 foot confused waters with big rollers, I think boating... in a V of course . :D :D :D My 2 cents. --- John

Man, I hope you guys are right! Never have ridden in a cat, I only know what I read and have been told. Alot of it is pretty scary, after all I'm out to have fun, not kill myself or worse the Mrs. I originally only wanted to go 80-85, but everybody insisted that I'd be bored at that speed! Hard to imagine after the handfull that my old boat was at 72! I'm really looking forward to this summer!

Fly low

A cat is a lot of fun in 4 to 6ft average day at LOTO I,ts a diffrent ride handling is very good on mine. Plus when you can stand on the gas in the ruff and it still runs straight. what a blast spring cant get here soon enough! As my boat is wenterized took out the kaw 150 jet ski I,ts good for a little speed rush on the water. but skis take off like a planeand land like a rock.

I can't beleive you guys had to bring up this topic again . I have loved the classic big V since I first saw a boat . But they are right .If you like a V better for anyother reason besides looks ,You have never been in a cat .Unfortunatly it will ruin you for everything else ! THere is nothing about a cats performance or handling that can be out done by a V bottom .........In any water . I am not talking about the ACME brand 24' cat , I mean a cat . Cause lets face , don't compare a 40' V to a 24' cat in ruff water . Lets go boat for boat . I was told by a freind of mine . Don't ride in my 40' cat ,you will hate your 40' V . I said no I won't . Well guess what , The following summer I now have a big cat ! I love the look of the V .But thats all it has after riding in a cat .

Any body wants to find out , Look me up if your in the area this summer . I'll take you out for a little spin !:D

Has anyone been on or tried out the 42 fountain Scism cat?
Just curious as how they compare with the others.

Thanks for any info :)

Fstboater,

4-6 average on LOTO, that seems a little extreeme to be average on a freash water lake(GL don't count), what do all the 16-23ft boats do on weekends, sink??? Never been to LOTO, but if it avg waves like that on weekends I'll pass.:p

Wildchild212 02-20-2002 08:54 AM

I have to agree. I went for a ride and also got to drive a cat this summer WAY COOL. I own a v hull right now and am looking to buy another v this spring. After that I will have to have the wife talk to all of you cat owners so you can tell her how great they are:cool.:D ;)

27fountain: It is hard to imagine 4-6 footers at a freshwater lake. I have been to LOTO only twice, but both times were weekends (one Labor day), and there were boat wakes (not actually waves) that were at least 6'. You have to imgaine several hundred boats, some up to 60' yachts hauling ass as fast as they can on a lake that is less than a mile wide! I have a 28' Eliminator Eagle V hull and it was completely airborne on many occasions! I made the monumental mistake of taking jet-ski's to LOTO on Labor day weekend. They are worthless to ride in that kind of crap! It is a fun place to float, but if you want to do some serious running, bring something big!;)

boot 02-20-2002 09:38 AM

Wildchild 212, No one beleives words . Bring the lady down and we'll go catin' ! If you live it you will buy it ! No offence to you V guys , I love them too ,but as I stated earlier ..............................

BAJA WILL 02-20-2002 10:28 AM

Well, I guess if you got a small boat stay clear, :D

LOTO

27Fountain
The water may be a little rough in places but its worth the trip. Thats why most of the boats at the shootout run a little slower there than on other lakes.

Wildchild212 02-20-2002 11:31 AM

Boot Thankyou for the invite man but it will be a few years yet.
I have heard that if you have a cat that it takes a bit bigger v to get the ride out of it that you would a smaller cat. I dont know but I do know my cat ride was awesome:D

Mike
I love the colors of your boat. question though is it hard to keep the water spots off, and is it just smokin hot in the sun! Black boats are way ccol but look like a ton of work.

I should have also made it more clear that the traffic is usually only a problem on the weekends. Huge fun and WOT during the week:D !

Here's a pic of my cat. It's 26' triple digits whenever you feel the need, and it's an awesome rush in lake erie 4 footers, and great on Lake st clair 3' confused boat chop, it skips the tops of the waves, and keeps a big smile on your face. I bought a new 32 Advantage, cuz it's an awesome boat, and I couldnt afford a 50+ cat with turbines, but it's still what I would get if the budget was unlimited. The best of both worlds, a cat and a v, but the cat's for sale and there's a bunch more pic's on my home page. I'd take a cat over a V, and I know what both are all about!!!

BAJA WILL 02-20-2002 12:14 PM

Mike,

Was your boat in Hot Boat mag a year or so ago. I thought I remember a black cat being in there.

WILL:confused:

MIKEHTMSR24 02-20-2002 12:22 PM

Black Thing

Mark, It's not as bad as you would think about keeping the boat clean. Our lake has very soft water. The deck doesn't see much water. So spots aren't a problem. As far as hot. Yes, it is but no hotter than the last boat I had which had a red deck. You just learn to stay on the white interior. I'm not too anal about my boat but pretty close to being that way. I just take care of my stuff because it has to last for a while. Or I could just blame my dad because of the way he raised me many a year ago.
I wax it about 4 times a season and at the end of the weekend I wash it in the lake, towel it down, and put it back in the storage building.
Not in Hot Boat unless I missed it!
