Baja 252 with 4 blad 22p

Ok about to buy a Baja 252 has a 454 Mag, with a 4 Blade Mirage 22P on it, said 65mph with out trimming (just hit it for a few seconds and looked and backed off) what prop do most fine the best for this boat? It came out of the water easy. but i would think it could turn a bigger prop, and go a little faster. thanks, had 1/4 tank of gas. 3 people on it. LOVE THE BOAT.

any help to try first?

I bought a 98 252 new with a 454 Mag with a 23 pitch Mirage 3 blade. The 4 blade is a Bravo prop, not a Mirage. Sent my prop to Merc Racing in Fond du Lac and picked up 4mph(71 gps). I really think my motor was built on a Wednesday instead of a Monday or Friday, as it ran very well. I've had my boat 10 years and love it.

3 Blade Mirage Plus will be a better overall prop for that boat due to the conservative X dimension.

I have run several different props on my 252. The labbed 23p mirage plus netted the best top speed. I have a 25p 4 blade hydomotive on it now and i love it. I also have a 24p labbed 4 blade bravo and it is not a lot different then the 25p hydro. ran a 23p hydo as well and lost speed. it all depends on what you are looking to do with the boat.

I think your engine was built by Teague!

That f'er used to run good. I put a new 496 in it three years ago and it slowed down. Of course somebody stealing my new drive and labbed prop probably had something to do with that.:(

When are you gonna be back on the water Kennyo? I'd like to take a weekend with the wife and introduce her to Priest. I miss party cove.

OK bought boat!!!!!!!!!! love it, ran 60 on GPS, wi this pro. I think it has more in it this was at almost 1/2 trim on gauge, and 5000rpms. I think I can cheang and get better of both worlds?? thoughts?

You can definitely pick up more top end moving to a 3 blade. Hole shot should not suffer too much. Congrats!

I am going to try a few different ones, I do not want to be too slow out of the whole, but to run mid 60's and still cruse nice, and get on plan nice is what i am looking for.

OK, 63.4 GPS is the best so far with the Bravo 22P 4 blade. i Have a spare 3 blade for a bravo one, but it is onlt a 20P. so I would like to try a Mirage 23P 3 blade before buying one. does this sound about right on the speed with that prop?

boss252 04-30-2008 10:14 AM

What rpm was it running?

mittens 04-30-2008 10:36 AM

4700-5000 I can stay around that speed just depends on trim, the gauge is reading just under 1/2 at 4700 and at 1/2 to get 5000 rpm

sounds like the perfect candidate for a revolution 4. I went from a mirage plus 21p to a rev4 21p in a 25' 454mag. hole shot and throttle response is amazing. Also pickup up 2 mph. runs about 4900 rpm. I don't have any numbers to prove it, but some guys say you can expect a HUGE increase in fuel mileage with a rev 4.

edit: just noticed this is an OLD thread...

mittens 02-06-2013 08:18 AM

Yes this is my old boat.

I had both a mirage 23P-3B, and a Barvo 22P-4B

the 22P-4B had a better hole shot, beter cruse speed, but a WOT of about 60-61mph

the 23P-3B still got on plane fine, 3 mph slower cruse, but 63-65(if lucky 65) mph WOT

boss252 02-06-2013 10:09 AM

I ran a 23p blade hydomotive with great success. i also had a 24p Bravo labbed finished that was the best overall prop. Great hole shot and worked very well when the kids wated to be pulled on the tub.

mittens 02-06-2013 10:15 AM

yep i ran my bravo 22P-4B 99% of the time.
