Blown Engine Poll
You can have a stock naturally apirated engine and have an engine problem once in your life, wich could be called normal.
This means, you could also have a blown engine (talking mild power here let's say, 400 to 700 hp) and have once in your life an engine problem related to the blower, whatever the brand ( whipple, procharger, vortech ...) wich also could be normal.
What I want to know is, how many of you guys, had blown engines, and ran into engine problem related to the fact that is it supercharged, for 2 times or more?
I'm just trying to see the general reliability of mild power blown engines...
and your comments on that subject!

I jsut bought a formula with 525sc's
because they are very reliable, blown motors
I plan to maintain them to death and keep them for a very long time.
I am unaware of any 525sc's that had any problems beyond possibly a value train spring issues that a similar cam'd 500hp might have had
seems when someone starts to tweak beyond a reliable scenario to get more power, they then run into problems
take my nitrous injected snowmobile engine for example
( don't ask)

If you have not blown an engine...
Naturally Aspirated or Blown you either have just started Offshore Boating and are still pulling away from the dock wrapping up your lines or should go for a ride without your wife once and put the coals to it...

I've got 575SCi's with about 350 hrs on them
and they've been fabulous
Last boat had HP500's, 1 had a broken lifter,
and valve spring problems at 190 hrs,
after that was taken care of, they ran flawless
til I got rid of it around 425 hrs.

I'd rather have 750 hp coming from a warm engine with mild boost that 750 hp coming from a hot N/A engine. You'll have less issues. The bottom end will see the same amount of beating but the vcalve train will have to be more radical. You'll also have to deal with higher idle speeds, fouling, etc. The Achille's heel with blowers is fuel system problems that lean you out and smoke the engine.

I'm surprised (happy) that up to now, exactly 50% of people NEVER had any problem with supercharged engines...
honnestly I think it is a pretty impressive number!
Now I have to let the one who had problems the time to answer!

I've blown up way more motors than I could count, BUT I've never had a motor blow because of the blower. Most problems are valvetrain related and as Lucky Strike mentioned, exhaust leaks can take a motor out real quick.
