what would you do
i took my 28 eliminator daytona into a marina to get the starbaord water pump changed. i have a extended warranty on the engines. the marina told me it would take 14 or more hours to do the work. they said they have to pull the motor. i was told by the service mgr that my warranty will only cover 8 hours. and i will have to pay the rest. so i called the warranty co, and asked why would they only cover 8 hours. i was told that they called the factory and they where told 8 hours was plenty of time. so i called the fatory and 3 other boat dealerships. and i was told the same thing by all. that 3 hours was plent and the warranty co was being overly generouse. and the engine does not have to be pulled. what would you do? thanks

Take it somewhere else.:eureka::eureka:

BS on havin to pull the engine, 3 hours to replace the water pump is about right.
Go get your boat and take it somewhere else. Dean |
I think I would take it to another shop. Probably one that quoted 3 hours. Is this the raw water pump or the circulating pump?

Where are you located? Dallas? Not many places around the metroplex that can work on these boats. I would pick the boat up NOW. |
do it ur self its not that hard.
|
Get it the heck out that shop. 3-4 hours is plenty and flat rate is 8 hours! The shop is doing well on that job. You don't have to pull the engine.
|
wisconsin
im in wisconsin. i just sent them a fax saying i wont ok any more than 8 hours. they all ready have some things apart. if they dont agree i will pull it out of there
|
16 hrs? Man I would do it for 5 and still be makeing extra time and alot of it.............
|
HMMMMM
Take it to the dealer who sold it to you, and have them take care of you like a good dealer would. WILL:D |
I would make them put it back together the way it was when you took it and take it somewhere else NOW

Either way, DON'T let them near your boat. |
I would go get the boat and hand them a new jar of KY JELLY...telling them that they might need this on their next customer. I have a Baja and I can change my raw water impeller in less than 30 minutes.
|
Dallas- Do the right thing and take your boat out of there- they are obviously not a "reputable" shop and then let us all know who they are so noboby at OSO will get scammed by these idiots!
|
and make sure they haven't either taken other parts off your boat or sabotaged something to generate 'future revenues'.

I have to stress my point earlier! Why not take it to who you purchased the boat from????:(
|
Actually it depends. Mercury bases the warranty and time associated with jobs based on access to the engine. The engine should have minimum specs of spacing around it, and access to the water pump. IF the water pump, and/or front of the engine, and/or the entire engine are installed in basically a "cube" just bigger than the engine; well then yes the engine would need to be pulled to do a water pump.
So, biggest question is can one actually get to the water pump? Chances are very unlikely that the builder setup the engine compartment so poorly that you can't work on it. Hence, your service dealer is trying to take you for a ride. |
???????????????
if they have started you will pay the bill or you won't get your boat............don't let them start!!!!!!!

If you're in Wisconsin, just run it over to Fond du Lac and have Mercury do it themselves!
