Action Alert !! IMMEDIATE ATTENTION NEEDED !!!

The EPA and the Feds are looking to impose a Major Fee
on US boaters starting Sept. of 08. It could be as
much as $2000.00 per boat, yes 2K.
Please go to this
website and fill out the form to contact your Senators
etc. It'll take 1.5 minutes. The below website does the
rest.

The original verbage was aimed at Large Ships with
ballast tanks (overboard discharge) The courts said it
was OK to cover ALL boats..

This is Important Guy's !!

If we don't stop it, they'll
do it!!

Support house bill S.2766 It'll add exemption for
recreational boating.

S. 2766, the Clean Boating Act of 2008
Bill Protects Boating and Aquatic Resources
The Threat to Recreational Boating. Unless Congress acts soon, every recreational boater in the country will have to obtain a federal or state permit in order to operate their boat. This means yearly fees, bureaucratic red tape, confusing and potentially state-by-state regulations, citizen suits and $32,000 per day penalties for non-compliance. These permits would apply to deck run-off, bilge water, engine cooling water and any other water-based, operational discharge from a recreational boat. The Environmental Protection Agency, due to a sweeping court order, is already writing this unprecedented new regulation on boaters.

Recreational boating is one of the most enjoyable American pastimes for 73 million boaters nationwide to spend time together outside enjoying our natural treasures with friends and family. But, unless Congressional action is taken soon to pass S. 2766, the Clean Boating Act of 2008, the estimated 18 million recreational boats in this country could be subjected to sweeping new regulations and permit requirements intended for commercial ships with ballast water tanks, preventing boaters from enjoying this great past time. ...

Tim I did it again, I had spoke to NJ senators Lautenberg and Manendez they both said they were aware of the bill and said they did not support it. But what they said was the senators that want it passed do, is staple this bill to the back of a bill that the majority want to push through and it it gets passed, but they are looking out for this bill.

Yep !

You wonder sometimes if all these people took speed reading courses. There is no way they can possibly read all of the stuff that comes across their desks.

How much time did they have to read last year's budget before they had to vote on it ?

You know what I'm saying. ;)

Unless someone is looking for it, it would just roll right through.

Let's keep the pressure up ! :evilb:

LubeJobs42 04-28-2008 07:31 PM

I received this today.

Dear Mr. Gargiulo:

Thank you for contacting me regarding exemptions from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations for recreational boating. Currently, recreational boaters do not need to obtain operating permits from the EPA, but a recent court decision threatens to eliminate this exemption in September 2008.

I introduced the Clean Boating Act of 2008 (S. 2766) to ensure that recreational boaters can operate as they always have--without EPA permits. To help protect the health of the nation's waterways, on which recreational boaters depend, the bill also would require the EPA to examine best-management practices for boaters. The bill is pending before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee whose chair, Senator Boxer, is one of several bipartisan cosponsors.

I am committed to preserving Florida’s waterways without placing an undue burden on recreational boaters. I appreciate your interest in this issue, and I hope you will not hesitate to contact me in the future.

P.S. From time to time, I compile electronic news briefs highlighting key issues and hot topics of particular importance to Floridians. If you'd like to receive these e-briefs, visit my Web site and sign up for them at http://billnelson.senate.gov/news/ebriefs.cfm

I got the email this morning:

Thank you for your recent letter in support of recreational boating. As a member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, I appreciate knowing of your interest in this matter.

Recreational boating is part of our proud Texas heritage, and we must strike a balance between the need for environmental regulations and leisure activities. The Environmental Protection Agency regulates large point source polluters, such as commercial shipping vessels, and cruise and cargo ships, under the Clean Water Act. Since 1973, recreational boats have been exempted from obtaining certain permits used to regulate these large vessels. You may be certain that I will continue to support legislative efforts that fully and permanently restore a long-standing regulation that excludes recreational boaters and anglers from federal and state permitting requirements under the Clean Water Act.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of all Texans in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator
