Thanks Eric!
I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Audiofn 04-27-2008 08:48 AM

Boat US and West can get it for you as well. Shipping is ussually the killer with that stuff.

Jon

bouyhunter 04-27-2008 08:53 AM

I kinda figured shipping would be $$$
3 - 20' sticks means nada UPS, DHL, Fed Ex...
Freight hauler only I'm sure.
And then hope it isn't shipped just stretch wrapped laying on the floor of a trailer:(

Thunderstruck 04-27-2008 08:58 AM

Check out www.rubrail.com. I got my rubrail from him. You are right about the freight though.

I looked at the site - looks like rail for docks and piling??
I'm looking to replace the rail on my boat (24' Pantera).
The Taco P/N is the match - probably the original rail.

handfulz28 04-27-2008 10:14 AM

I've wanted an excuse to ask my local guy whether he can hook me up with Taco stuff, so if you can wait until tomorrow, I'll stop by. Taco is actually local to me, so perhaps you can go through my guy to order, we can pick it up and try to figure out how to ship.

ive seen it shiped in pvc water pipe, like 2-2 1/2 with the caps on the end. Hustler Charged me 100 shipped to MS

Had some shipped on my old Scarab ,they put it in a cardboard tube, came in bent.:(

US1 Fountain 04-27-2008 02:34 PM

I ordered an AC unit thru WM and had it shipped to their store for pickup, vs drop shipped to my house. No shipping charges that way.

Sure I can wait.
I don't expect the boat to see water until mid June.

I'm replacing the entire rub-rail, so the 60' should be easy coverage on a 24/7. I'm just worried about kinking it in the bends.

Let me know what you come up with.

handfulz28 04-29-2008 11:50 AM

$140 each from my local guy. Sounds like Taco does the metal out of TN and uses both TN & FL as a warehouse. They have the pieces in stock down here. I can pick them up but you'd have to figure out how to get them to you. Perhaps an OSO boat haulin' bro with some room could stuff them in a cabin or something.
I don't know if my local guy could somehow arrange to have a dropship from the TN warehouse to a local-to-you shop or something, but it's an idea. But if he could do it, your local shop should be able to do it.
Let me know how I can help.

JB4Boyne 04-29-2008 12:17 PM

What town is in. In Tn? Where are you located bouyhunter?

fund razor 04-29-2008 12:40 PM

Hey Tim,

Why don't you learn how to dock the boat first. Then buy new rub rail after that. :D

Thanks!
I'll let you know. I don't want to turn it into a major production and have several people's time involved to save a couple bucks. I respect that everyone has there own things to do.
I appreciate you looking into it though.

Yeah, the location in TN might work fairly easy. I'm just south of Cinci (ten miles into Kentucky), And I have business associates in Nashville that might be able to make something happen - or I may need to make a visit.

Either that, or leave this one on and name the boat "Battle Scars"

handfulz28 04-29-2008 05:16 PM

Helping someone out is rarely a major production. Pay it forward... Besides, gives me an excuse to stop by the boat store and say hello.

CigBoat 04-29-2008 05:28 PM

Tim
I have told you I would give you a hand with the boat and I actually replaced the rub rail on my 24 baja years back and it was not to hard so if you get the stuff I would be happy to help it is nice to have a few hands.
I ordered mine through captins cove a few years back they had it come in on a truck and I went down and picked it up. I can not remember the price though it was not too much, less than West Marine or whoever wanted.

Thanks Todd!!
Yeah, I've watched video's of them replacing it, and It just makes me nervous taking a stick of this stuff (all aluminum, no insert) around the sharp point of the bow.
I still need to do paint, but was thinking of pre-fitting this stuff, and then pulling it and re-applying. Any thoughts on this plan?
I'm looking at regardless about $5-600 in it by the time it's said and done, to some that isn't huge money, but in the scope of all my other projects on this...it starts to add up.

CigBoat 04-29-2008 06:54 PM

I would not think it is a bad idea to prefit it but we did not damage the old boat at all doing mine. We used a heat gun to warm it up and a rubber mallet and the bends went fine.

Love Machine 04-29-2008 07:16 PM

Bouyhunter,

Do you have pics of your current rail? I'm interested to see if it's all wavy like mine. Though mine is pretty clean (I haven't docked it yet :D ) it doesn't lay on in a straight line. Kind of looks cheezy.

LM

JJ Pantera 04-29-2008 08:18 PM

Mine isn't an issue of laying straight, I think it is the original, and has seen some abuse. Gouges in it. Look through my WIP thread in the Pantera section, you'll see what I mean.
It's an old solid boat, I would expect this (maybe not this bad..) But I'm trying to bring the exterior back to close to original in rigging/style for the day. I think it's a very classic look. If you try to take a 28 year old boat, and make it look like a 3 year old boat, it never works. Plus, I'm over the bubble of being old, as opposed to being old-school. I like the look of the old-school better myself, but that's just me.
Not many guys today want the old High Cablde lifeline down the deck, but I love it!
What year is yours??
I'd be glad to dsicuss things with you about our boats.
I love mine, and haven't even seen the water yet in this one.

LM - sorry, this is Bouy - the wife logged in on the laptop, and a I didn't realize

You are alright, man.
Makes me miss the old OSO because it was all about this kind of thing.

Sure thing! And tell you all the guys I got advice from, and what I screwed up in the process.:D Not from their advice, at my own hands.
I'll also let my wife do the shopping for parts for ya - she's gotten some great deals for us on some nice stuff.:cool-smiley-011:

JB4Boyne 04-30-2008 05:55 PM

Where is the place located in Tn? I'm coming up 75 now and will hit the Tn line about 9 and if it close and open I can pick it up for you and drop it off at your place in the morning and the shipping won't cost you a dime.
