Breaking News

AUSTIN --
Early Saturday afternoon a small helicopter crashed into Lake Travis 1/4 a mile from shores near 15 Water Front Avenue in Hudson Bend. The helicopter was carrying two people, a pilot and a cameraman. Both people were rescued from the helicopter and no injuries were reported.

Witnesses say the helicopter was flying really low and skimming the water. The helicopter lost power and flipped over. The passengers swam to the surface and were picked up by boaters.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene including Austin-Travis County EMS, Hudson Bend Fire Department, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

Figures with the way that guy flies around down here. Glad they're ok, though.

CLIMAX 05-11-2008 11:13 AM

We were standing in front of the dry stack at Emerald point yesterday morning, watching him fly into Devils Cove, and we all said with the way he is flying this morning he is going to crash

At least they walked away from the crash! The R 22 does not have alot of room for error.Flying low and fast like that, it is just a matter of time.

DOH!

Turbojack 05-12-2008 07:39 AM

Person flying only had a fix wing license.Camera man was his instructor.

If chopper was not distroyed on crash, it was finished off on removal from lake.

I wonder if someone snapped some shots of the sunken helicopter, used their reg numbers to get their address, and sent them a 8x10" glossy along with a bill?

Chris Sunkin 05-12-2008 02:07 PM

I was wondering if this was the same outfit that was being posted about a while back- The one that would take pics and send them to you, then turn you over to collection.

Same guys?

gerritm 05-12-2008 03:36 PM

Same guys. They fly over Clear Lake and Galveston Bay all the time. A couple of guys have bought their pix. I have a hard time paying for something that I hav'nt seen. You don't see the pix until they mail them to you and I think you have to give them a card # to guarantee the pix. If you don't like them, then you have to send them back within a time frame before they charge your card.
