Fire!

Wow, what a day yesterday! My community was almost engulfed in flames, and our pool area was damaged, but thank God my boat and house are OK. I was loading up the boat while ashes and soot was raining down on my head and shoulders, but I got the boat out of the RV/Boat storage lot just as the fire was moving within about 50 feet. Luckily the boat had about half a tank of gas, so I am able to run my generator after siphoning it out as I have no powerin th ehouse. 3500 acres around me are charred. Here are a couple of pics from the high school across the street, and last night.

Glad to hear you are OK.

This current environment is wacky. Normally, Florida is one of the wettest states in that nation, and we have droughts and fire watches.

Now, Florida catches on fire somewhat annually, and we've had so much rain that our pool literally overflowed into the backyard.

glad your house and boat are ok. scary stuff. news said that was started by arson?

Sea-Dated 05-13-2008 10:07 AM

Glad to hear everyone and everything is OK. Stay safe.

Tom A. 05-13-2008 10:31 AM

That is scary, glad you are all ok.

Dean Ferry 05-13-2008 12:42 PM

Tom,
Glad to hear you are ok. What really sucks, is the Malabar fire sounds like it was intentionally set!!!!!!!!:angry-smiley-038:
If there is anything Dail or I can do, let us know.

Thanks guys. It was pretty scary there for awhile. We are good now as the power just came back on. I appreciate the kind words everyone.

Glad you're okay.

By the way, the second picture looks like an environment I would never want to be in. It looks like a glimpse of what Hell would look like.

kimmer 05-13-2008 07:34 PM

Glad to hear you made it through ok. They finally opened LPGA up here by us today, drove through on the way home from work today and pretty charred.

I am doing some work for the FWC right now and while talking to him he said there are almost 90 dozers working the fires.

Hey I live up on Minton just before 192. If you need any help cleaning up let me know.

White Knuckles 05-14-2008 08:37 AM

People all over the area are outraged by this arsonist, and they are swearing a lynch mob if the cops catch him.

They have the guy in custody. Brian Crowder is his name, born in 77. White trash red neck guy, blond mullet. Tossed a Molotov cocktail type device from his car.

knockld 05-14-2008 11:40 AM

Copied from cnn.com

When police arrived at Crowder's house, the man ran into surrounding fields, Berger said. Guided by residents' calls, about 60 police officers closed in on the suspect for almost 90 minutes before a police dog caught him, the chief said.

Crowder was being treated at Palm Bay Hospital for minor dog-bite injuries and cuts from the brush he had run through, police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said.

Yeh saw a pic of him on the news, typical looking white trash red neck with his nice mullet LOL

Glad everything is ok Tom.

I lived on St Simons Island GA for a while. We almost lost our home to a fire some jackass started in the marsh. What a helpless feeling.

Glad they caught the chit bag. To bad he didn't drop the Molotov cocktail in his car while trying to throw it.
