Poker Run ?????
If you had time and money to hit every poker run you could which ones would they be? Just want to know which ones people think are the best.
|
I have to laugh at the people that will tell you that this one or that one is the best when they have not been to them all. To be fair they should list the ones they have been to and then tell you which one of them is their favorite.
|
Take a look at Hot Boat mag's top ten list that would give you a start . And yes Jammin On The James is in there . :D
|
I have not done even close to all of them so I can only say my favorite and that is the Mohegan Sun Poker run. I like it because you get to run out in the open ocean to Block Island, no land in sight, dudes hitting huge waves right next to you, and it is INSANE. Then you go to the sub base where the navy boat points a .50 cal in your direction and you almost sh!t yourself. The partying is awsome because of the casino and although it is expensive, you get awsome food in a great atmosphere. I'm doing the Jaxsonville Run in a couple of weeks and they say that is one of the best so we'll see.
|
Poker Runs I have run and th 4 listed on top are my favorite.
NJPPC Atlantic City Poker Run ***** PRA 1000 Islands Poker Run ***** FPC Miami Poker Run ***** Rock The Bay Poker run (Maryland) ***** PRA Sarasota Poker Run (spring) PRA Sarasota Poker Run (Fall) NJPPC Roar at the Shore |
It's a subjective list just like anything else. If you've had a great time and zero/few breakdowns at a certain event, it tends to rank higher in your list than the others. People also tend to support/pump up their local events, as well they should.
I always recommend Destin (Emerald Coast PR) simply for the great beaches and beautiful water. Was hoping to make Jax this year but it doesn't look like it's gonna come through. I've heard nothing but good things about that one. Havasu is still on my wish list. And, used to make LOTO each year for a family reunion but haven't been for the past 6 or 8. Plan to put that one back on my annual list as well (either the races or a PR). As was said earlier, check out Hot Boat's Top Ten and start with one of those. You'll be right in the mix!!! |
any of them that have free gas! :D:
|
Atlantic City , Glen Cove, and Lake George. They always seen to get a lot of boats to turn out and have great parties
|
FPC Bahamas Poker Run, Miami Boat Show PR (you see many boats at the show/ then in the water the next weekend for the run!, Jacksonville PR, Emerald Coast and season finale, Key West PR (the November one, not April).
|
I like all of these:
1000 Islands FPC Miami Boat Show Run FPC Key West Run JACKSONVILLE Firefighters / My Favorite Destin Emerald Coast "The BIG One" Fox Chapel Lake Erie / Kelly's Island _________________________________________________ Runs I would Like to do: Tickfaw Poker Runs America Sarasota FPC Bahama Poker Run _________________________________________________ Runs I will probably not do again: Lake Cumberland FPC Daytona Poker Run LOTO Thunder at the Lake |
To be really subjective, check out Powerboat Magazine's top ten Poker Run List.
My personal top 3 that I have attended are: PRA 1000 Islands NJPPC Atlantic City Run FPC Miami Boat Show Run I also have enjoyed: NJPPC Roar at the Shore NJPPC Barnegat Bay Poker Run PRA Sarasota Runs (Spring and Fall) New York City Poker Run |
I would say it also depends on what kind of boat you have and what speed it runs as to what runs you should participate in.
Doc, I heard that the Thunder on Lake Run at LOTO was not anything to write home about. If MidwestBoatParty does another Poker Run at LOTO, you may want to give it a try. It was great event last year. Probably the most fun and well organized PR I have been on. |

I am surprised that more of you didn't mention the NYC Poker Run. Especially the guys that mentioned the other ones in the area. I have never done any of them and thought the NYC Run would be a great start. Am I wrong?
|
I'm still new the poker runs. My first was 06 Boyne Thunder in Lake Michigan and every year since then. Last summer stumbled on one From Put In Bay in Lake Erie. So I don't have a lot of experience to say that there is a "must attend" or a "must stay away". At this time I'd say it's like a Bl@# Job. No such thing as a bad one, some may be better then others. Have fun no matter what one ya attend.

These lists are a JOKE!!! Want some real offshore water.....HEAD WEST!!! SCOPE!

The best all-around poker run I have attended is Jammin on the James... 1000Islands and Alexandria Bay offer the nicest water and waterfront property..... The type of boat factors heavily in the fun factor and the size of the water.... |
My Favorite and why
Atlantic City #1. The run (2) chioces Ocean or Bay, The food at breakfast the best, Trumps Marina you can't get better then Trumps for dockage, the outside patio bar, the bands, Dinner, The Clubs, Casino, the bar thats open till 5AM and of course Hooters when we get the 12AM munchies. 1000 Islands Poker Run#2: The main thing is the spectacular view of the run, partying on the docks, the venue, Kingston is a fabulous town, passing by all the Castles and of course seeing my good friend Boxy. Miami Boat Boat show Poker Run #3 I love the water of Florida, Islamorada is just a lot of fun, seeing all the new hardware. Partying at the Tiki Bar with Matt Trulio from Powrboat. Sarasota Spring Poker Run #4 The Hyatt is great, docking is fantastic, Being out of the cold and of course Florida water in the gulf. Rock The Bay Poker Run #5 Jeff puts on a great run for the money, Maryland is spectacular, The bikini contest with the girls walking over the taples while your eating lunch and he has good food. Roar at Shore Poker Run NJ #6 Just a great run for the money, more like a get together with friends the run is ok but you got expect that from a guy that boats in that water every weekend. The Beach Party is a blast, food is good and after the party a walk down the Point Pleasant Boardwalk with the wife and friends is a memory in its own. "BEST PRICED POKER RUN ANYWHERE" Key West Poker Run#7: Love Key West one of the best party towns ever and FPC does a heck of a job. I will still go but not with my boat. Way to long getting back unless you have someone trailer your boat back from the Keys, The ride is long going down but it is exciting and very trying on your arms, legs etc you need a lot of drinks when you get off the boat. Runs I use to do but am tired of. Lake Cumberland: Did the run once, to confined, the boat ramps Suck, though I was going to loose my dually and the boat there so damn steep, The 16 Hour drive up hills that at some hills my truck could only do 25mph with the peddle slammed to the floor while the boat was getting soot all over it. NY Poker Run: Same venue year after year, to much junk in the water, once you past the GW bridge all you see are mountains and traveling to the hotels by cab through some of the nicest neighbor hoods NJ can offer and i don't mean that in a nice way. Sarasota Poker Run Fall: Did the run 4 times and 3 were bad conditions. The last time I went The water was out right nasty! Towed all the way down from NJ to Florida 20 hours put the boat in and the next day the run was cancield due to 15ft waves in the gulf and 5-8 in the bay with winds blowing over 60mph. I have learned never do a Poker Run when its hurricane season in Florida. |
