Boat help

When running the boat tends to lean to the stbd side, the faster I go the more trim tab I have to use. The drives are at the same level. Any thoughts?

Are your drives counter rotating?

Drives

Tom, I don't think so boat acts normal otherwise.

Thanks

They should be counter rotating. The props should spin in opposite directions, probably outward. If they don't, this is likely cause.

Drives

Griff, I understand that if they are spinning in the same direction this would cause the boat to act this way. If I have a left and right prop on and they spun in the same direction would this not rob me of a lot of speed?

How about posting what boat and driveline as well as anything else you can describe your setup by? If you had "left and right" props on same-rotating drives, you'd be going in very small circles. Leaning would be the least of it.

Not if you were trying to go in a circle:D. I think what he is trying to tell you is to make sure your props turn in opposite directions.

Props

Yea, the turn opposite. Thanks

I suspect you have a hull problem, like a bad hook, or you have a bad gimbal ring(s).

PARADOX 05-28-2008 02:05 PM

Sounds like you might have a hook in the hull, or something in the gelcoat/paint to slow the strbd side. Also possible that the RPM's are out of sink.
Stupid question may be , but "props are same pitch"??

does the boat sit level when its at rest?

MacGyver 05-28-2008 03:17 PM

Don't pick up fat chicks :evilb:

Sorry, couldn't help myself :hitfan:

check for same rpms per motor; check for loading of gear, fuel and equipment; check for accuracy of trim indicators (do prop streams look similar at speed?); check prop pitch; check toe-in/toe-out adjustment (tie bar adjustment); and like the guys said, sight the hull running surfaces and any obstructions; check trim tab mounting and pivot point/hinge; check free play in gimbal. all of this is fast, cheap and fairly easy to do. now the fix for the problem may be a different story, good luck - jeff

Thanks guy's, Chris its a 89 cafe found a 1/4 inch bow in transom over the winter (not fixed) so build quality iffy.

Griff, gimbals are good you and Paradox and another very knowledgable person suggested a hook. I will check this out. I'm going to put on a different set of props first.

MacGiver I try not to pick up the larger ones but if it gets late you never know.

Thanks again
