Custom shift cables
Who would be capable of making or stocking custom cables? I have a Land and Sea stern jack on my boat and the cable broke at the end where it goes into the drive. THey no longer sell or stock any parts for this. It's about 12" longer than the stock length cable. Is there different length shift cables or are they all the same? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Doesn't Mercury sell a package Bravo with an intergraded extension box? Would that cable be long enough?

if you keep breaking chit at this pace Kenny you will have an all new boat before the 4th of July!!

If it's a standard Morse 33C cable with 10-32 threaded ends, you can get them in almost any length you want. Look on the outer jacket - the part number should contain a number that inidcates the overall length in inches. 15' = "180", 16' = "192", etc.
Morse Control Catalog here. More information on Morse cables. Google search results page with LOTS of links to buy. |
You could always mount it in the back and have Butch be the throttleman.:evilb:

This cable has a 1/4" barrel/plug on the end were it goes into yhe outdrive. The other end is just a smooth spiral wound cable 78 3/16" long.

That shift cable is about as custom as a chrome glasspack.

It sounds like a throttle control on my grandma's old lawnmower, maybe he could get a replacement at Chilton's Small Engine repair downtown!!
|
Maybe he can put a lever on the steering wheel. If he is squeezing it.....it stays in drive.....let go of the wheel....it goes to neutral. He can put Toro across the transom!

I wonder if Land and Sea would be kind enough to tell you who their supplier was since they don't have any interest in Stern Jacks anymore...

I actually did get a hold of their supplier. $500 to tool up and $30 apiece after that. He's supposed to get back to me.

So an off-the-shelf cable won't work? Got a picture of this thing?
