I saw that last week. Typically this would be comment-worthy and a fun one to chuckle aout. But, since this is shaping up to be the Summer of Douchebags here on OSO, it just didn't seem that out-of-place.

I don't know what's better, the $675 K Buy-it Now or the photos of the rigging done by the Mexican version of Rube Goldberg.

Thats funny. I don't usually talk smack about other peoples rigging but i n this case Chris is right. Ray Charles might have been able to do that good.

The old lightning jacks boat. I never saw it rigged or running but do remember seeing the turbines sitting on the floor in the shop when I was there looking at a donzi years ago.

The guy I bought my boat from kept the AT in the same boat yard as this Cougar. It looked like it had been sitting for a long time...

You need to keep the igniters on if it rains.

Mark nye is no stranger around Tubines However the description was written by a Fruit Loop.

I know the boat well as Doug Lewis began the re-rigging job and created the little Yanmar drive modules as well as starting the turbine rigging....After Doug passed away it was turned over to "a turbine guy". Doug's original expectation was approximately 110-120 mph with those power plants. It was not meant to be a rocket ship.

As far as the boat's earlier history, I know that first hand as well.....and Stan Ware can back me up on this. The boat was initially run by Al Copeland, Billy Sirois, and Stan. Chuck Norris did run in it a couple of times. Don Johnson and "Smitty" Smith did not. It was the original 4 engine Superboat and was called Popeyes. It was bright yellow and we have the original footage of its first race which I covered from a helicopter. In fact, I probably covered every race it ever ran in with NNRT.

In my opinion it should have remained yellow with the Popeye's markings and also should have retained the four gas engine configuration. Frankly, it was probably faster (Approx 125 mph back in the day with 4 x 750 M/C's).

This project has limped along for 10 years and nothing has happened except maybe the boat grew a few more dents.

It has value to a real collector....... but how much is anybody's guess..... The turbine motors probably belong in a Skater or MTI......if anywhere.
