Default Just a thought, but I can't get it out of my head

After watching last week's 24 hours of Le Mans, is this maybe what our sport needs?

It works every year at Rouen in France for the outboard tunnel boats with Worldwide coverage and a big fleet of competitors.

I am thinking a 24 hour race say "The 24 hours of Long Island in Great South Bay or the Sound.....

Maybe Barnegat Bay

Cheseapeake Bay

Pimlico River

Havasu. (Big tradition there)

Etc...

Bottom line

You set up a 5-8 mile course with lighted markers

Head lights and bright lighting on the boats

Pit stops with driver changes for refueling repairs

Relatively calm conditions

Maybe 4 classes (Single OB, twin, OB single IB, twin IB)

This lets the outboard manufacturers get in on the publicity and competition.

According to Reggie Vees are as fast as cats so you don't need to separate them...

Canopies....

and go.

Thoughts anyone?

That would be very cool to see happen. I would like tosee it in the Gulf and maybe make it a 20 mile course.

I don't see any type of night time racing getting blessed. Its not safe. If you had an accident, you would have a nightmare on your hands; not to mention rescue and God forbid recovery would be VERY hard.

However, I would love to see two consecutive days of 12 hour daytime racing with ABSOLUTELY no mechanical "pit" work done while the boats are tied to the wall overnight.

Rich, fixating on one specific thought is a warning sign for senility. At your advanced age, you should be very worried

Start small with united classes, Cat OB, Cat light, Vee light, for a 12 hour race. Would bigger custom engines last that long in a race environemnt? I'm sure if there is interest from the racers, one of the sanctioning bodies can put it on?

What about limits on fuel tank size?
Floating docks for pits or support boats?

A longer "road race" type course with s turns would be nice.

I wanna see a "Le Mans start." Have 'em swim over to their boats...

Actually, having a focus on engine/drive durability over 24 hours of constant operation...and the requisite fuel efficiency needed to keep re-fueling to a minimum would be a nice alternative to the usual display of sheer HP and speed.

--not that there's anything wrong with that...
