Flights to KW from Florida?
I'm trying to save a few bucks and book my Key West trip myself this year. My travel agented quoted me too high of a price. What airlines do you use to get from either Ft lauderdale to KW or Miami to KW ?
I may just see about renting a car also and doin the drive, air$ is crazy ass high |

What he said. It's a 35ish min. Flt. You can fly Allegiant from Allentown direct to Ft. Laud for around 100.00 r/t!
|
airline flights are through the roof compared to last year from NYC
|
Cape Air or Gulfstream International Airlines....both smaller, dunno about prices

I have done the drive from Miami to Key West and its a cool drive, some beautiful scenery on the way and great food just about every where that you stop.
|
I may try and see if I can secure a rental car for 1 day only down and 1 day only back? I don't need a car once in KW :drink:

Try flying through Atlanta-Key West via Delta

I used Yellow Air Taxi from FLL last week. Last minute booking was $170.00 +/-. If booked in advance much cheaper. Also check Cape Air is another small airline. :D

We have always flown in to Lauderdale and then rented a convertible and drive down. Beautiful trip down and the best time is dusk and then watch the sunset as you driving across 7mile bridge.

I'll be renting a car from FLL, what dates are you planning on? I have not made travel plans yet but will definetly do KW this November. |
Why not fly into Fort Myers and then take the Ferry to Key West. It drops you off right next to Galeon Resort. I just used it last week and it was $100 round trip.

If you are going to do the drive just remember, there is a cop before and after EVERY bridge.
|
I have not used a travel agent in years, just go directly through travelocity or orbitz, you can do hotels and flight. but from miami you can use gulfstream or american eagle.

http://www.keywestshuttle.com/specials.asp My buddy did this just a month or two ago, he said it was great, relaxing, drank Bloody's at the bar all morning... I believe he said he left at 8AM and was in KW @ noon... $100 roundtrip.... you will spend that in gas for the rental... |
Having done this trip in virtually every configuration from DTW or TOL I would recomend the following. If you are traveling with 2 or more people and the additional fare is 125.00 or more for a direct flight to EYW(which is almost always), I would suggest FLL and rent a car one way. MIA is a zoo and you will spend more time getting your car than the additional drive to Ft. Lauderdale. I595W >175S >Turnpike t> US1 MM131>MMO. Have 3 one dollar bills for the tolls as it saves time making change.
Drive to KW drop off your gear and peeps at your place, return your car hopefully at the airport. Go to the airport bar order a cold beverage in a to go cup, walk out the side door and sit under the KDOT bus sign until it arrives. Finish beverage, hand the man 1.00 and go for a nice ride by the beach you will be doposited within 2 blocks of anywhere in old town. |

Just checked for fun NYC>FLL in Nov 238.00 RT including tax. 23hr car rental FLL>KW 63.00. KW>FLL 42.00 + 50.00 gas.
Flight 238.00 Car 105.00 Fuel 50.00 Tolls 6.00 Total 399.00 Based on Travelocity info. Check with them first but only book directly with the airlines. Ticket refund and change policys are much better than with Travelocity/Orbitz/Expedia. |
This cheap flight thing is history. If the discount airlines raise fares to were they have to be, nobody will fly them. Fasten you seatbelts the next year will be intresting to say the least. Doug

I almost cry when I look at what I use to pay for vacations. I'm a pack rat so I save my reciepts. I have been going to KW for about 12 years now. Every year it went up. but now it's more then double then 10 years ago but oh well who knows....

The lowest price from Fll, MCO, TPA or MIA will be qouted exactly 3 wks prior to the day of travel begins along with a Sat Night stay.
Now is way too early. Months in advance last year or even two years ago has always been way to farin advances. |
I have flown into Key West and Ft L and rented and drove. For some reason it is much costlier to fly from anywhere in Florida to Key West. I have known people who have flown in from diferent parts of the country for much less. I am thinking of trying the Ft meyers fairy next time.
