I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to HORBA, Charlie McCarthy Larry Goldman and Brad Schoenwald, for all their work and for putting on such a great event with the Don Aronow Memorial Race. Because of them I can now say that I have experienced true offshore racing. Although the Premier Performance Marine Cigarette P3-19 lost a hose clamp to the bellhousing oil cooler just 5 miles into the race, it was one of the boats that finished.
Albert and I brought extra hoses, clamps, and a few other items. After cooling the engine and exhaust enough to be able to work around them (rags dipped in the ocean and ocean water from a Zephyrhills bottle) we replaced the clamp, repaired the hose end, and we were on our way to Bimini at 95 mph. Of course it had to be the outboard bellhousing hose on the rear, starboard, staggered, engine! I hung over the side of the boat working on the hose while Albert worked the clamp tool and looked over the side for sharks!!!
I am proud of my team for not throwing in the towel and actually finishing the race. Although the clamp caused us a lower finish, I truly cherish the episode and gained a true sense of accomplishment. I am signing up for next year tomorrow if they allow me.
I also want to thank OSS, their Angels and GEICO for all their support and presence. There was not a single moment that I truly felt alone in this crossing. We actually were escorted most of the way by Angels. I urge everyone to participate next year if this becaomes a yearly event.
Once again, a sincere THANK YOU.

I'll second that Thank You, but I have to add a few names, Alon Stieger and his Dad. Susan Simpson and the City of Sunny Isles Beach FL. It was Alon and Larry that got the city to give OSS a call about 6 months ago and start the ball rolling.
I also have to say a HUGE thanks to the Staff members of OSS that helped to develop and produce this event. Putting on and promoting an event like this takes a dedicated effort from a dozen or so people and because of them, today was a huge success.
This whole thing started when I asked Charlie to join Larry, Alon, and Brad to help me sell the city on paying for an offshore race. We explained to the city elders about the significance of this race site and during the presentation to the city, someone said....and maybe we could do a run to Bimini and Back with the historic boats.....and it went from there. As Charlie likes to say, "I never expected to be a race producer."
Twenty two boats ran today. As long as the town invites us back next, OSS looks forward to having a long and mutually rewarding relationship with HORBA and the Don Aronow Memorial Race. We hope that more people have the chance to experience this crossing for themselves next year.
The day was awesome, the band was great tonight and Stu Jones brought a tiny bikini contest to the stage, MCed by Mark and Scott from Team Geico. And it's still only Friday night, now onto our regularly scheduled program, OSS testing on Saturday and OSS Racing on Sunday, right in front of the beach. Plus we have a bunch of SLT boats that will put in a demonstration race between test sessions on Saturday and between races on Sunday.
We hope you enjoy the show...as a spectator or participant.

I hope it becomes an anual event.Looks like it was alot of fun.I wish I could have entered my Skater, but was warned not to or loose my Warranty from Mecury
on my new 300xs. I sure wish Mercury could make exceptions for a run like this.I will be ready in another 22months
Thanks to All that were involved ! Keep up the good work for the years to come!
