Did anyone else notice the close call in this video? How about the small boat right in the middle, headed tward the camera boat? The guy had no chance of getting out of the way. I'll tell you this, if it were me & I had my kids on board for a nice day out, you would be getting a very unpleasant visit and your boat would not be floating at the dock. Wayyyyyy too close.

Take that crap to the race course where it belongs..

Panther 06-26-2008 09:35 AM

The course is a closed course and the CG and NYPD clear the course before the start, it seems those two boats were not where they were supposed to be... that's the problem with SPECTATORS trying to become part of the run and getting in the way. Yes the boats were to close, yes they would have probably been blamed if something happened but NO, those spectators weren't supposed to be anywhere near there...:party-smiley-004:

Chris288 06-26-2008 09:39 AM

Since when is the River CLOSED for a poker run ??

The West side of the river is cleared by the CG and NYPD...... The CG and NYPD go ahead of the poker runners, zigging back and forth clearing the course... If a boat is in the way they head straight for them and tell them to get out of the way.... It has been like this for MANY years and the spectators can't seem to stay out of the way...even after the CG/NYPD tell them to get out of the way...... At the drivers meetings you are also told of this...

Chris288 06-26-2008 09:43 AM

The only official closing is for the SBI race, and even then commercial traffic is allowed to pass,, and it's still no excuse for a bone-headed move like passing a boat with a family of 5 at about 40 feet away.

10x 06-26-2008 09:50 AM

Let;s not start to blame the poker runners for a boat that should'nt have been where it was. There's way to much of that $hit coming from the media when there's a tradgedy. Nothing went wrong, nothing happened, and nobody got hurt. Let's be glad that everyone made it back to the docks safe and sound. Maybe just a few bruised egos. Can't ask for more than that.

Congrats again to both boats, you both sounded "killer" good. :D

Chris288 06-26-2008 10:00 AM

There could have been a thousand boats between the GW and the TZ, the river is NOT CLOSED to anybody..

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Fountain had what looked to be a proffessional camera on board and it didn't look like a "Sony".... They put themselves in harms way WITH kids on board.... It doesn't appear this was a family outing, it looks more like an outing to watch/see the fast boats go by while filming the action...

As I passed the GWB about 1000 ft. past the bridge there were two spectators sitting in the middle of the river just sitting there watching boats pass...sitting ducks if you would...not a smart move and it puts ME in danger...

Like I said before....it appears CK was too close to the small boat and the Fountain but they were not supposed to be there either.

Panther 06-26-2008 10:05 AM

"Closed", "Cleared" whatever you want to call it.... the point is the west side of the course is cleared prior to the start by the NYPD and CG.

I've been doing this run for 11 years now and since 2001 they have been "clearing" the course prior to the start.

First it's not a race course, second it's not closed to anybody, third, take some responsibility and obey what laws are already in place and fourth just because you spent 750.00 to participate in a poker run doesn't give you anymore rights on the river than the 2 boats that were supposedly in your way or weren't supposed to be there..

Who said it was a race course, you did.... The CG and NYPD sweep/clear the course before the start to protect everyone but spectators feel the need to be close to the action and that's fact.... I'll just assume you're one of those specatators..

Check your facts on cost...it's less than $750...and for a boat your size it's even less. :D

And at the TZB where all the specators Anchor up to watch the boats come buy you guys are always in the middle.... Anchoring in a channel is ILLEGAL.... obey the laws your self...:drink::food-smiley-007:

I was one of those specatators, every year since 2000 except this one, and always stayed far from the channel, not like it mattered, many boats passed dangerously close at high rates of speed to people well outside the channel going under the bridge,,, and yes it was quite a thrill. I believe we had this same argument about a video that was posted from the 2006 NYC poker-run.

I never said the Hudson was a race course, quite the opposite, I did say if Reggie wishes to pull these stunts it should be done on a closed race course.

I also think many laws such as not passing within 100 feet of another boat are outdated, written back when 60 on the water was considered fast, now we have 160-180 mph race boats passing stopped pleasure boats at speeds well over 100mph within 40 feet..

Anywho,,, i'm done arguing the point... For the most part every single person on here knows that was a dangerous pass and we as a group know better....

Quick question though. Which one do you consider in the wrong? The boat in the Poker Run of the spectator that is inthe middle of the course?

Oh come on Chris. The Poker run is a permitted event on where they are to run. No it's not a closed course, but it is a course. More and more boats are spectating than joining in the area. The spectators fleet is getting larger and larger. Those that watch every year know where to be, those that don't come too close to the course. I even saw 2 boats anchored on the middle of the course. If you wanna be that close, then enter. What do you wanna see the price for the poker run go up so there could be patrol boats on the course? It would be nice to actually see someone that is in the spectators fleet take a little action themself and patrol the area. This way the experienced spectator does not see the unexperienced spectator inharms way. Instead of complaining, DO SOMETHING!

You know, I'd be tempted to actually agree with you, BUT, there were more boats that were not running on their own on the Hudson that day. Most, and if not all, were there to watch the Poker Run. Let alone a hand full of boats that did not enter, but ran with the other poker runners.

Why is it every year we seem to have the same discussion with you?

Does anybody think that CK is running over say 170 in a pokerrun? From the start to the bridge they hold it on 170plus the hole way?

AIR TIME 06-26-2008 12:44 PM

THE LITTLE BOAT IN THE MIDDLE WAS IN THE WRONG IT looks like a jet ski:rolleyes: The fountain boat that took the video looks like a plant by the tuna or reggie. to catch the ck coming out 1st for the new video that will be out soon:rolleyes: 1st to the washington bridge video not the tap ha hah:grinser010::rolleyes::D video. now the cat was on the other side of the river in clear water no boats. If I was in ck and thought I had the faster boat I would of backed off a lil in case the lil boat turned paniked and headed for the side of the river. the beak boat was there to take video and you can here the mother ask the kid you all right nice for the parents to endanger there kids that way. morons

I guess as long as people keep posting videos of members doing stupid and dangerous things year after year i'll continue to point it out that, we preach about being safe, wearing lanyards, and doing the right thing on the water, yet we don't even take our own advice.

They were in an area of the course that was swept by the NYPD and CG, it should have been clear. The CG and NYPD also don't allow us to run ahead until they're out of the way and BF gets the go-ahead to drop the green flag.

There is no 1st the the GW!!!!!!!!!!!! They start just shy of the GW. Why does everyone keep saying the were the 1st to the GW? Being 1st to the GW is like being in a race and being the 1st boat to turn one.

Chris I agree on both points whether CK was right or wrong... :drink:

Panther, that little boat could have come out of the East River on it's way over to get gas on the Jersey side, (Palisades Park) after the area was swept and had no idea they were about to be almost run over at 100+ does that make them wrong ?? ,, IMO no, the guy that failed to manuever a safe distance away or pull back on the sticks is in the wrong..

Panther 06-26-2008 01:27 PM

I think we already agreed on that so there's no sense in dragging it out.. :ernaehrung004:

And it's also possible he came from the East River to watch the Poker Run!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, even if that's what happened, then if he was crossing to get gas on the Jersey side he was cutting across the channel which make him at fault then.

But let me guess, you know this guy personally and know that was his exact initention.

CasinoRunner 06-26-2008 02:35 PM

What about all the boats in the area that knew of the poker Run, you think one of them (including the Fountain with the Camera) could of warned the guy that a bunch of boats would be coming his way.

Dee it was a joke I know the start was the gw:D I should of but a ll:rolleyes:. . BUT I think we will see a video from the ck camp with cut up shots to make it look like they won, does that make sense, you know like the last tape they made which I hurd was all cut up to look like they killed the cats out on the lake last year.
