Default Vicki Newton - Leaving Affinity Gorup / Powerboat Magazine

I just received a mass email from Vicki letting me know that she is leaving Powerboat Magazine effective July 11th after many many years with the magazine.

She is a 1st class lady and brought alot to the magazine. If any of you had the chance to meet her or work with her you would know. Our hearts went out to her when Tom Newby was tragically killed in the accident last year.

Vicki - from me and all your friends at NJ Performance Powerboat Club, thank you for all that you did for us, the industry and the laughs we shared at boat tests, poker runs, races or shows.

Best Regards,
Dave

Dear friends and coworkers,

As of July 11th, I will no longer working for Affinity Group, Powerboat Magazine or WaterCraft World.

It has been more than a pleasure working with everyone, and I wish you all
the the best of luck.

Again, it has been a joy and a pleasure working with each and every one of you through the years.

Sincerely,
Vicki Newton

The mag headed downhill right after Bob Nordskog died.

The publishing industry never got the bump back up after the last recession- the internet has hurt them badly and virtually none have been able to see a nickle from their online ventures. Any of them related to the disposable income sector have to be really feeling the pinch these days.

It's a shame to see anyone with issues affecting their livelihood.

I am leaving PB as soon as my subscription expires. I had hoped it Would improve when it changed hands but it still sucks! Chris is correct, it has been downhill since Bob Nordskog passed.

Bob did PBM as a passion and a labor of love. He was quite wealthy from his aviation equipment business and didn't need the money. After Bob passed, PBM became someone's meal ticket.

If you weren't aware- if you flew on a commercial airliner built in the 60's, 70's and 80's, chances are the galley section was built by Bob Nordskog. The next time you fly, take a look and think about Bob.

I hear ya, that's why I wake up every day and I'm thankfull.

I left PB because I wasn't enjoying the articles and it became the Bob Teague magazine. I also wasn't learning anything new from the tech articles.

The cake topper was the first time I let my subscription lapse back in the late 90's. They sent me a couple of issues even after the subscription ended... Fast forward a couple years and I decided to buy a new subscription... It had been a couple of months and I didn't receive an issue so I called them up to find out what was going on.... The ladie on the phone starts telling me that the last subscription I had they sent me 3 issues that I didn't pay for so now I was being deducted 3 issues on my new subscription....

I told the cust. service rep. that just because you idiots decided to send me a few free issues to coerce me into extending my subsciption doesn't mean that I get hammered for it when I buy a new subscription and that it was their fault for sending me the mags for free and they need to eat it, not me...... She put me on hold for 5 minutes and then came back on the phone saying they'll be sending me the back-issues that I missed.....

I let my subscription run out and have never renewed....
