New to Donzi

I recently made the switch from single I/O to a twin. I noticed that Donzi has switched the Port and Starboard LH and RH rotations. I have not seen any other makes do this. Does anyone know why? Has anyone seen any positive or drawbacks to this? Any information would be appreciated.

Tim

Tim,

Does your set up look like this? Where the props spin in towards each other?

Thanks,
Mike

IUHalls 06-25-2008 09:53 AM

Yes...But that looks like a fountain... I have not seen any like that, usually the RH is on the right. Do you have info on this?

Sydwayz 06-25-2008 09:54 AM

Tim, welcome to the site.

Each and every boat has different characteristics when spinning the props "in" vs. "out". Spinning in often gives you more speed, but looses handling when docking, and can make the rear of the boat feel real 'loose' at top end. Spinning out often regains that lost handling at idle, but sucks the boat further down into the water at higher speeds, and slows the boat down.

I'd try to find out via contacting Donzi on how your boat was set up from the Factory, and then go from there.

FWIW, I was born in Valpo, and grew up 30 minutes from you. There are a few NW Indiana boaters here on the site, as well as a sizable group in Chicago.

mjpcowboy 06-25-2008 09:56 AM

I think the way they are set-up gives them more top-end with their hull design. The only problem with the rotation that way is that it is a little more difficult to back-up and takes a while to get use to it.

Sydwayz 06-25-2008 10:00 AM

You might try posting your boat's specifics in the Donzi forum, and seeing what other owners of similar boats have had their best experiences with.

Tim,

Welcome to the site as well! Yes that is a Fountain and what Sydwayz and mjpcowboy is very true as well.

A lot of the builders have gone with the set up like yours where the drives are probably closer together, higher up on the transom and the props spin inward and as they said this is for more top end. Some builders offer either set up, but what you are looking at is completely normal. Best of luck with the new boat!

Thanks,
Mike

Tim, I'm one of the nuts Sydwayz was talking about, I'm not to far from you and could help out if you need anything. We are a pretty tight nit group and are always willing to help out the new guy. In fact thats how alot of us met.

My mom has a place over in Valpo.

IUHalls 06-25-2008 10:15 AM

Wow, you guys are quick appreciate all the feedback. Look forward to seeing some of you from the NW Indiana/ Chi Town area out on the lake! It will be a little bit though, stuck in Iraq for a bit longer. Only have a short leave between now and next summer. Again, appreciate the quick responses.

Keep your head down, and Godspeed in returning safely and soon. You will have fun when you get back over here and get to run with the upper Midwest crew.

StraightJacket 06-25-2008 12:20 PM

Hey no problem at all, We are always looking for new recruits for the "Bad Influence" Crew , But we might be a little worse to deal with then where your at. We are also alot more fun.

Prop Work in the Region

Fellas, I am looking for someone to do some prop work. I am running 24's 4 blade at 5100rpm, I was looking to get 25 or 26, 4 or 5 blade labbed and see how that worked. Anyone know someone that can do the work on new props? Thanks

osur866 06-26-2008 03:40 AM

Try donzi.net you'll get all your q.'s answered a wealth of knowledge there, I think that boat came from the factory with labbed mirage plus 25's I think

StraightJacket 06-26-2008 10:30 AM

I have some 23 quad 4's , blue printed 24 quad 4's and a set of 26 quad 4x's.

Do you have injected motors? and what size and whats the rev limiter set at ? what brand is the prop you have now?

IUHalls 06-26-2008 05:38 PM

I do, I have the 377 Scorpions. I am running 5100 right now with 24 4blade, running about the same with labbed 25p 3 blade. looking for more hole shot than the 3 blade, but trying to keep the speed of them. Have to get the makes in the next message

All the Scorp experts say the Mirage Plus is the way to go on that boat.

There are several of folks on the Donzi.net with them including one guy that dialed them in for Donzi

Hey Brian, I don't suppose you're using the RH 26 Quad IV X right now are you?

No boat in the water , so they are sitting on the shelf.

I might be very interested to check the 26's, what's the deal with your boat? Ohh BTW Mirage 3 blade lab, Mercury Marine 4 blade

LAKESIDE RESTORATIONS 06-29-2008 11:53 AM

As a rule The 3 blades ran good on the twin engine ZX boats out of the box. Not to say though that a 4 might not get you a little more, however they usually ran those on the single engine zx hulls. The drives are done for speed As sideways mentioned. Spinning them the other way will probably slow you down. The 28 Scorpion was more of a limited edition 28 due to the 377's in them and thus the Scorpion graphics on the deck (most models).. You should be grabbing high 70's to very low 80's on that hull if set up right depending on where you boat..

Our boat is a long story we can get into over a few drinks. I'd try our 24's first then the 26's. Just let me know when your going to be around and we can set something up

I'll assume that you boat out of the ditch. I am one of the Indiana boater Sydwayz was talking about. Hope to see you on the Pond.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

I would post your prop questions in the Prop Talk forum and direct them to Brett at BBLADES. All he does is props and he can definitely help out. Or just give him a call:
http://www.bblades.com/
He may have some props on hand that he will let you try out before you buy.

Good luck!
Mike
