Boy, you guys are tough. :chill-pill: Everybody knows Ebay's descriptions are usually a little......ummmm.....different. It's a cool boat with alot of history. Maybe a touch high on the asking price though.:party-smiley-004:

In my opinion it should have remained yellow with the Popeye's markings and also should have retained the four gas engine configuration.

Could not agree with you more. A true classic in it's original configuration! I just can't believe how people talk of 200+ like it's a cake walk or something. They truly have no idea!

I remember when John first got this boat, and I remember Doug just begining to consider re-rigging the boat.
We had many conversations about the costs of a project like this at the time, the costs of turbines, the costs of transmissions, drive systems and props. Seems like yesterday. Threads like this one, brings up fond memories of an old friend, a true champion, Doug Lewis. |

So true. |
I guess it's one of those "had to have been there" things...
I still remember the Popeyes boat and the Gentry 48. When we first saw 4-engine superboats everyone was just blown away. But the most amazing part was how many mechanics, how much equipment and how many parts came along to the races with these monsters. Alot of the time, it was the one that had the fewest things go wrong that won. These things were complex- and in a time that the mechanical reliability of components we enjoy today was only a dream. Tom's boat is in the Motorsports Museum. Too bad Al's isn't next to it. |
O Yeeeehhhh if little faith...... Attache a couple a them bad boys and add a lighter with the deal and I bet you it'll go at least 240.... in what direction is the question... :D
