Terrible attempt to replicate the original paint on the port side (original on the starboard with the bonefish logo). I remember when that boat crashed in Tampa.

There was a thread started about a month or so ago last time they tried to sell it.

And what the heck is with that green???

thisistank 07-10-2008 09:53 PM

that's pretty f*cked up the add mentions nothing about being repared.

where's the pics of it with the damage?

Jupiter Sunsation 07-10-2008 09:58 PM

Guy is a salvage dealer (according to what he sells on ebay). Boat is Chris Parker's, the one that blew over killing him and injuring the two girls with him.

dirtlawyer 07-11-2008 07:31 AM

J/S - yep, you are correct. One of my wife's good friends was one of the girls who were injured. Sad tragedy.

I cannot believe that the boat was repaired and is now for sale.

Unfortunately, I have a few photos. These are from the media coverage.

It's hard to believe they are the same boat. He does indicate the boat is not necessarily 'merchantable'. But most people would simply perceive that as a non-trasnferable warranty.

(I'm not sure if the third photo is the same boat, but it came from the Spectre "owner's" photo site around the same time.

what you can't see from these photos is how the rear quarterpanel was gouged out. There was also substantial delamination along one of the forward sponsons. A testament to the boat considering it didn't sink in spite of the large opening.

SHAWN DAVIS 07-11-2008 07:54 AM

Spectre

we saw the 36 last weekend on the water, pretty obvious it had been repaired

LaughingCat 07-11-2008 08:02 AM

it's not necessarily bad that someone makes money by rebuilding and reselling. But it's spooky to think that the next owner will eventually figure out they are not simply buying a boat that might have sunk, but flipped, delammed and a person lost their life.

Imagine sitting with a bunch of poker runners when someone finally tells you the true history of your boat.

open87 07-11-2008 08:04 AM

sent seller a email and asked if he was going to disclose that vessel was involved in a fatality accident ..provided a link to oso and ebay..

no way of contacting the bidders anymore:mad:

TexomaPowerboater 07-11-2008 08:28 AM

So is that a salvage.....or tow:drink:

jmeng 07-11-2008 08:45 AM

Saw it on the Tickfaw 200, haven't seen it in the water since.

BAJA WILL 07-11-2008 09:21 AM

Very sad, at the very least change the paint, the boat should have been destroyed.

This is really a crazy idea, I wonder if in my insurance policy. I could have a clause added that if I am am killed on the boat that it will be destroyed?? Just an idea??

38flatdeck 07-11-2008 09:31 AM

no different than cars or trucks insurance companies auction them off

open87 07-11-2008 09:46 AM

but with cars/trucks they are useually issued " salvage title only" meaning they go to auction and then to a junk yard for what little parts are left...

but , there are people out their who will sell anything because they don't give a dam , just looking to make a buck...

berns29scarab 07-11-2008 10:58 AM

i have contacted my ebay rep about this. I sell alot of cars on ebay threw my job and he said hes going to look into it

berns29scarab 07-11-2008 11:11 AM

said i should be contacted within 24 hours

Tazz 07-11-2008 11:19 AM

I see no problem with the boat being repaired and re-sold, assuming it was repaired correctly, It should definately be disclosed in the ad though. The fact that someone died dosen't mean the boat should be destroyed, people die in houses all the time, I don't see them destroying the house.

Chris Sunkin 07-11-2008 11:56 AM

The problem with a hit that big is the repair may or may not withstand another hit that big and now we have a two-fatality boat. Unless the original builder repaired it and provided documentation that it posessed the same structural integrity as a new boat, I wouldn't ride in it, let alone own it.

I'm picturing those commercials, where the car is on fire and the text from the used add appears. "This car is HOT!!!"

or swamped in a storm. . . "new upholstery".

This time around safety was taken into consideration. The child in picture 1 has on a lifevest. In picture 2 he has a quad padded dual sided neck restraint system.

c'mon guys. In VERY poor taste on more than one level but just trying to lighten the mood of the board!
It sucks that the seller isnt telling the story, but the boat is redone and hopefully the title will say if it is salvaged. I have bought and sold ALOT of salvaged bikes. Always told the buyer and never washed one. I also never asked the insurance company if it was fatal. I dont want to know and it really doesnt matter at that point does it?

LaughingCat 07-15-2008 10:08 AM

I'd buy the dual-sided neck restraint system, even if it was a salvage.
