Default Wiring Question

I am trying to sort the wiring harness at the alternator connections. I have five wires that terminate near the alternator . the ground ,the power a purple and a small red. My question relates to the fifth wire . It is purple with a white strip and has a connection boot on it . There are no other sending units that i can see that this wire would connect to and there is a stud on the altnernator that appears to be a receptical stud . Is this wire an altnernator wire or a gauge or swnding unit wire of some sort.

Thanks Rick G..

605 cu in bow tie block merlin hrads dart intake MSD ignition. Looks to be a standard Merc wiring harness . What more do you need to know .
Looking for any help I can get.

Thx Rick G.

The alternator...is it a Mando, Delco, etc.?

Isn't there a thick orange wire in that harness?
