Anheuser-Inbev Merger

Any one got pics of Auggie Busch and Jeff Soffer in the Bud Dry Skater with the zoomie headers?

Smarty 07-14-2008 07:28 AM

Did the buyout go through? Wasn't it around 700 BILLION?That is a disgrace. An American business, ie. Budweiser to be owned by a European company, WTF. That would give Inbev more that 25% of the total beer market the world.

I was a life long Budweiser guy. Thank goodness I am sober now (not due to this merger, LOL).

stainless 07-14-2008 07:45 AM

saw it on cnn this am apparently went thru. :ernaehrung004:

LV 07-14-2008 08:12 AM

52 billion i believe.

getchasum111 07-14-2008 08:20 AM

that sux...i don't drink much beer except on the water....i guess i will find another beer...that should show them i mean business and really put the hurt on those bastards....

Ratickle 07-14-2008 08:21 AM

The officers approved it, has to be approved by the stock holders, EU anti-trust board, US anti-trust board before anything final can take place. With the Euro at double what it was a couple years ago, (or dollar at half depending on point of view), will keep happening.:( Wonder what will happen to all of the Busch/Bud etc. race teams in US if finalized?

Kind of the "IB" of the beverage world, eh? The gobbling up and consolidation of brands continues.
Remember when somebody bought Lowenbrau, which was a decent lower price lager... and then it reappeared a year later as a micro brew at 7.50 a six pack? Maybe Bud will go away and return as a "craft beer" at 8 bucks a six.

seafordguy 07-14-2008 09:39 AM

$70 a share - 52.xB purchase price....

I don't drink any beer but it is a shame to see such an icon of Americana sold partly due to the drop in the dollar value. Will be interesting to see if they keep Bush Gardens open in Williamsburg....

BOBCATMATHEWS 07-14-2008 10:04 AM

I love beer, especially bud light, are there any american non micro brewery beers left?

I agree! My initial buyout estimate was way off, but the fact that another manufacturing company, an icon of Americana, is owned by foreigners does not bode well with me.

My friends used to joke, "there are three kings in this world.'
1. The Lord God - king of the world
2. Richard Petty - King of Nascar, and finally
3. Budweiser - the King of Beers - at this point we would toast. This "toasting" would go on for at least 12-pack per person, me included.

Budweiser will never be the same.

BlackJack58 07-14-2008 10:22 AM

Oh well. AB products still give me a bad hangover with too-liberal useage. Must be the beechwood aging....:D I prefer Great Lakes Brewery, anyway.

wheels61 07-14-2008 10:26 AM

just had an A/B exec that retired because of this in the store. he said this buyout would make Pabst Blue Ribbon the largest American brewer.

nova26 07-14-2008 10:28 AM

Who owns Miller?

VetteLT193 07-14-2008 10:35 AM

I'll stick with Coors. Even though they are Molsen Coors now, I understand the Coors really bought Molsen but gave them honorary first name because they were the older brewery.

Plus, I like all the Coors Beers. I have Blue Moon and Killians in the Kegerator right now:ernaehrung004:

Wow. I just looked that up and now the Coors umbrella includes Miller. It is now MillerCoors. This just happened June 30 of this year.

Outside PBR local and regional breweries are the only ones left that's American owned. SAB is a south african based company that owns Coors, Molson and Miller then Imbev owns a bunch of brands. I'll still drink coors light on the boat but usually if I'm having something with dinner it's a Sam Adams or Leinenkugel.

tblrklakemo 07-14-2008 10:58 AM

AB will still have two seats on the InBev board.....I dont think this will change much of anything for AB beer drinkers. It is a move, like most on wall street, to make sharholders more money. If the beer drinkers are happy, than shareholders will be happy. Doesnt work the other way.....
Yes it sucks that a great american co is being purchased, but it really is a global econ.

BDiggity 07-14-2008 11:05 AM

If they close down the St Louis brewery, we could pool our money together, buy the plant & start producing Duff beer there. With the millions, if not billions of kids growing up on the Simpsons, the product would sell itself. :ernaehrung004:

Even though AB got two seats on the InBev board, I think they're going to streamline quite a bit. The theme parks definitely and probably packaging are going to go. I think there will be quite a few management positions eliminated as well. There's quite a bit of fat in management that has needed to be trimmed for some time. I have some friends that work there downtown, but they work in the brick buildings, not the glass one. So as long as they're still brewing here, I'll still drink it.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of charities here in St. Louis that are most likely going to suffer. AB employees last year contributed over $3 million to United Way alone. There are other homeless charities that are almost completely subsidized by AB. Really curious to see what happens there.

I though Inbev's business plan was to minimize everything. Was told that each year's budgets have to go up LESS than inflation. So each year they make more money.. thats great for the shareholders.

However, what about all of the motorsports and sporting events that AB sponsors or participates in? On top of the charitys, I think it would be a huge blow to everything if Inbev stops it all, and why wouldn't they?

Stu 07-14-2008 03:27 PM

I think there will be some cutbacks in marketing, but AB's presence in sports marketing will still be strong. They didn't buy AB to lose money, and AB has a strong track record of marketing that works.

Besides, InBev learned a costly lesson when they bought Stella Artois. After they took over, they cut Stella's marketing budget in half. Then the sales tanked so they boosted their spending close to what it was when they took over. They cannot afford to make the same mistake this time around.

Member23845 07-14-2008 03:33 PM

Any market share lost in the U.S. will be made up worldwide X2.

The cuts will come later down the line when everyone has moved onto other news, lots of doubled up management.
Auggie had plenty of opportunity to grow, but he reacted to slow.

DollaBill 07-14-2008 04:03 PM

All Bud products give me a headache within an hour of drinking them. Anyone have a clue why this is? I'm not alone.

LMAO. That's been a running joke with a bunch of my friends for years now.

I think you might need to drink them faster, that way the headache won't show up until the next morning...

37SR 07-14-2008 04:53 PM

The guys at Sam Adams probably love this - maybe Sam Adams becomes the AB of the 21st century????? They are big in advertising lately. :ernaehrung004:

damn straight. The closest thing that I have to a normal beer in my fridge is Corona, an import. and Yuengling "America's oldest Brewery. Additionally, Sam Adams Summer Ale, Sam Light, Sam Octoberfest as soon as it comes out. Mackeson Triple XXX Stout and than various growlers from my local breweries Brewerie, VOODOO brewing(Matt Allen, genius brewer, as helped open every brewery within 100 miles of Erie, and Sprague Brewing!

fountain44 07-14-2008 07:27 PM

Miller Lite

MidnightRider 07-14-2008 07:31 PM

The best selling beer at our C-Store is Busch Light Draft, no contest. My Bud rep says it's the best in the area overall for sales. They will own Michigan as long as we can still sell a 30 pack of BLD for $20.80 on the road.

Agreed. I drink Beck's about 90% of the time, with the other 10% spread across all kinds of other beers -

My favorite "microbrew" by far is Magic Hat #9. :ernaehrung004:

Joe92GT 07-14-2008 09:06 PM

Magic hat is ok, I like a lot of the long trail stuff (which got baught out by AB a year ago).

Micro brews are where its at! I also prefer Guinness as long as the bars know how to serve it right.

tomtbone1993 07-14-2008 09:20 PM

This will make AB a even bigger powerhouse. They will gain more marketshare/distribution across the world. You will also see INBev's beers in AB wholesellers. They will still have the sponsor ships for the tax write offs. Still sucks they sold out. But not the end of the world. Only a matter of time before they buy the little guys out. They won't be able to get in the big distribution house's they need to survive.

racesdad 07-14-2008 09:22 PM

yeungling is the oldest brewery, and it is still owed by americans. must switch brands now!!!

Jupiter Sunsation 07-14-2008 09:48 PM

Beer Joke: You can insert your own brand

What does "Coors Light" and having a sex in a canoe have in common?

They are both fukiing damn near water..........
