DOWNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A Maryland woman died Friday afternoon on a boat off the coast of Fortescue after she reportedly slipped and fell on a pleasure boat in the Delaware Bay, according to state police Bivalve barracks.
Elizabeth Garlis, 38, of Berlin, Md., was flown to Cape Regional Medical Center, in Cape May, after Coast Guard and state police officials received the emergency call at 2:41 p.m. She was latter pronounced dead at the hospital.
The cause of death is, as of Saturday, still undetermined and pending an autopsy on Monday, according to state police.
Garlis had been traveling on a 52-foot cabin boat near Ship John Light, a lighthouse in the Delaware Bay, near Fortescue.
The initial call went out to the Coast Guard officials, who performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Coast Guard officials in the Delaware Bay stated initial reports indicated Garlis hit her head in the fall. However, such reports were unconfirmed as of Saturday evening.
