1.36 drive help

Just found out I have 1.36 drive ratios on a pair of XZ ‘s. The problem is the boat, a 28’ Pantera, used to go 94MPH now it’s got 377 small blocks getting 4400 RPM with Bravo 1 22” props. Is it crazy to go down to a 19” prop( four blade) ? I guess it would help to go three blade to help get the RPM’s up , but on a heavy hull I always heard four blades work best. Any opinions??

Sell them and buy a pair with 1.65 ratios. Slowing down the propeller speed is generally more efficient.

Change the gears. You might find a pair you could swap and pay for labor only.

When you say swap gears does that mean upper and lower... or just the lower unit? Can you buy gears only and keep the current housings you have?

Austin, you can swap gears and keep the original housing. Make sure whomever does the work is familiar with Bravo drives because the shimming of the gears is very important. Not a big deal to do on Bravos. You will really liven up that Pantera with 1.50 or 1.65 ratio. You will feel a big difference in accelleration. Good luck.
