$1000.00 worth of gas

You ask how many people we know that quit boating.
A question that goes with that one is, how long does it take you to burn a $1000.00 worth of gas or diesel or jet fuel?
This should be interesting for some of the monster engined boats.

glassdave 07-18-2008 12:16 AM

in the Donzi (525 SC's) its a G to fill it and thats pretty much gone in a weekend. . . . . . . ouch . . . . .

tomtbone1993 07-18-2008 12:22 AM

1.5 days

articfriends 07-18-2008 12:26 AM

Over the 4th we took the boat out twice (started out full) for a few hours each day, cost 250 to fill it at 435$ a gallon to get ready for this weekend BUT we had my nieces and family in the boat so we kept it out of boost,at that rate it would last me 3-4 weekends of boating, with some full throttle runs more like 2 or 3,Smitty
The 100$ to fill the truck each weekend would help burn it up alot quicker though at 488$ a gallon

QWKRN U 07-18-2008 12:31 AM

Cost $400 to fill it, usually last 2-3 weekends depending on how far we go. Usually about 50 miles a weekend and itll last 3 weekends doing that. unless its a poker run weekend then itll usually only last for one weekend.

Jassman 07-18-2008 05:11 AM

easy...1 longer type poker run..320 gallons of 93

Chuck 07-18-2008 05:41 AM

I'm in the same boat (no pun intended) with Jass. One poker run:eek:

NKissau 07-18-2008 06:44 AM

One tank runs me just over $800 and if were running it'll last the weekend. If just cruising out to the islands, then 2-3 weekends.

OldSchool 07-18-2008 06:51 AM

60 gallons per hour @ $4.50 per gallon

3 hours and 45 minutes:ernaehrung004:

.....and that's at cruise:rolleyes:

There is a way around it. We've been taking shorter boat rides and just staying closer to home. For me....it's about being on the water!!!:ernaehrung004:

offshoredrillin 07-18-2008 06:55 AM

2 days for me, running at pretty good speeds. 65 mph at 4500 rpm.

t500hps 07-18-2008 07:09 AM

Poker Run last weekend.....200 gallons was just under $1,000 in one weekend. Usually it will last 3-5 trips when just taking the kids out to the beach.

seafordguy 07-18-2008 07:10 AM

WOW - This thread makes me feel great.

I have burned $1,806 so far this summer. I use the boat every weekend although the major raft up spot is probably 100-200 yards from my pier.

Plus the 1806 includes a poker run where I burned 112 gallons....

MnFastBoat 07-18-2008 07:16 AM

Spent less then $400 for the last 3 years so far!!
Well then again the boat sat for two years and i have put in $380 so far this year :)
Had three trips to the water, one lake run and twice to the river. However July 4th only idled to the campsite and never hit 60 on Sunday. and that was only for about .5 mile as the dogs did not like it :)
However another $200 in the truck to 'get' to the water :(

gerritm 07-18-2008 07:25 AM

300 gallon capacity @ $4.50/gal = $1350.00 to fill it up = NOT VERY LONG. I can burn thru it in a weekend or poker run. We have slowed our long distance destinations down quite a bit so now it will last several weeks if we boat on the conservative side.

Big Time 07-18-2008 07:57 AM

I've been going through $350+ a weekend, so it gets me about 3 weekends....I've been a little trigger happy though being that I just got the boat...been running it all over the place and giving poeple rides (speed runs). I think that is all going to have to change, I can't keep spending that kind of money on gas.....I think there are going to be more tie ups in my future.

Dave M 07-18-2008 07:59 AM

I can run about 20 hours in my rig At $4/gal. I can cruise at 55 MPH at about 14 gal/hr. Almost 4 MPG! :drink:

Ted G 07-18-2008 08:17 AM

2 weekends for me. But I have been OPBing so I am about there for the whole summer right now.

DollaBill 07-18-2008 08:21 AM

In my past boats it would be about 2 days at easy cruise and rafting or one day at a poker run. Flow meters on my last Fountain showed 130/gal hr at WOT ouch!

Boomer35 07-18-2008 08:28 AM

$1000 worth of gas has lasted stecz 2 years and counting!

BY U BOY 07-18-2008 08:31 AM

10 to 15 full sundays. I have only spent 300 this summer:(

DJD 07-18-2008 09:25 AM

Here is pain for ya. I'm taking the family out to Essex, Montauk, Block Is. and Newport next week on my 50' Bertram. To avoid Montauks $7+/gal diesel price, I'll take on 900-1000 gallons down here @ $5.60.
All things considered, I filled the boat last fall @ $2.89 per gallon and I have not taken on any fuel yet this year.

BlackJack58 07-18-2008 09:42 AM

At the rate I am going, 1K will last me all season. I've been doing a lot of no-wake cruising and really haven't had a lot of opportunity to open it up. A couple trips to Lake Erie should bump things up a little.

88Fount33 07-18-2008 09:47 AM

We have been going shorter distances now and I bet $1000 would last us almost half the summer. I've started the 5 gallon jug shuffle to the boat to get that extra few gallons that would not be possible if I had it delivered and filled as I had in the past. I can also get regular instead of mid grade so it saves even more.

50 gallons per week end is the current rate.

SeeYouThere 07-18-2008 09:43 PM

I recently took a ride in a Nor-Tech cat with two 1075s. Up here in Canada, where gas is more expensive, the owner says it burns $1,000 US per hour flat out, or $500 per hour cruising.

freshwaterfiend 07-19-2008 12:20 AM

Not buying that one. Gas is 1.39 per liter at my marina and I'm expecting it to go down slightly this weekend . . .
