Here is the most recent review, from Feb. If you search in titles "best GPS" or Garmin you will find a lot of posts. I've been watching too to find a new one for one of my boats.

i see the 498c which has now superseded to the garmin 520 ..seems compact enough for a helm...not looking for 1 with a 10 inch screen etc...

also wonder if people are using a in hull otr a thru hull (hole in bottom)..

Garmin 276C....but no transducer, strictly a chart plotter. Good unit though. Paid $420 for it last fall.

the 530s is a good one, im happy with it.

open87 07-20-2008 06:52 PM

i looked at the 530s, from what i gather the unit comes with the dual transducer where the 530 does not ,needs to be purchased seperate..

looked the the 4 series , only differance is the added inch in screen.

i will assume people use the in hull transducer ,cause i never seen 1 hanning off the back of a cigarette before:grinser010:

I have the 4 series w/built-in antenna and has the fish finder. The transducer is a transom mount, but I flush mounted inside the bilge w/epoxy and it works great on the Pantera. Very fast map refresh and the screen size works well. It came pre-loaded with all US waterways. I believe it cost around $650 and it's well worth the cost.

Garmin 182C, Kinda small but it is enough for what I do.

I've got a Garmin 440 and love it. Already had a depth finder so didn't care about the transducer.
