Yet another stereo question
I had my system stolen last year, so I'm piecing a new back together. Sony cdx660 CD with access tech remote, Clarion 50X4 amp to power 4 Kicker marine 6 1/2's, and an 8"bazooka tube. What I need is something to drive the sub. Something decent, yet cheap and small enough to be able to hide from the little bastards that ripped off the previous system.
The local Best Buy is selling a Pioneer gmx552 50x2, 150x1 for $69 (open box), a lightning audio with the same power specs for $79, and the have a rockford fosgate 160.2 (open box - 160X1) for $89. I know these aren't really high end, I just want a good system and I don't necessarily want to compete with guys pouring 5K plus into their systems. I'm leaning towards the RF, because it has a little higher power rating, and is smaller than the other two. Any opinions??

Out of the amps you mentioned Rockford HANDS DOWN. Pioneer has always made ok amps but they are no good for subs. Their power rating is very optomistic. The other guys (lightning audio) I have never heard of so I would be carefull. I am willing to bet the Rockford is last years model as they just did a model change.

"Offshore" amps usually suk for runnin subs.
Rockford is a good amp.
Also look into Soundstream, or PPI.
Actually PPI with their regulated power supply would be a good amp for subs esp. while you are not running the motor. This will assure you that you are getting full power to the subs.
Audiofn: You carry Sony mobile audio? If so I need a CDX-CA720 along with the XM tuner real bad.

I have always used Rockford and they work great. Hey Bill before you buy look at the sony remote
Hey FWK or Audiofn Speaking of amps, my subs seem to clip when I turn turn up the volume. I think this is caused because my battery is low in the boat, does that make sense? Or do I have another problem. running 2 Kicker 10" Comp VR on a Punch 250

Will, that remote rocks. I have a Premier head unit and it's in the cabin. It came with a IR remote which works ok but I have jumped in the water with it in my pocket one to many times. I wish I could hard wire a remote for the damned thing!

It is really cool, I bought a new head unit so I could use it. Also it has changer controls, I am adding a 6 disc changer this weekend with the 12 second anti skip protection only $200. If you like it FWK (Forest can hook you up), I lloked at all the wired remotes and this is by far the best in my opinion.

Yeah I've seen that remote. In fact PQ340Vyper has them on his boat. The one on the stern crapped out as soon as it got a little wet though. He has since put an Access Tech in place of the Sony.
On my boat I already have the Access Tech remote. I want the new radio because it is XM satellite radio ready. I want Satellite radio on the boat. It is too cool!!!
Thanks.

I hear ya about Satellite Radio, I want it in the boat also. I have to decide if I want to shelf a head unit I just paid $800 last year for though!
It would be nice to have the wired remote and XM radio!
