Alpha 1 help needed
Trying to remove the lower unit of an Alpha 1 Gen 1, (1984 model)
Bolts are done, gear in Fwrd. not budging. Sholdn't it just slide off? Am I missing a bolt or something? Anode.. gone. 2 top bolt, 2 bottem.. gone. One on the front by shifter... done.. WTF >??? |
Bolt aiming up under the anode?
|
Thats my guess. Could be an Allen Head, facing up through the anode cavity.

Out... I remember my Alpha 1 Gen 2 it had one going up.. I got this one out. Unit still "stuck" Could it be just "stuck" corroded together? could I start prying it appart? I don't want to use any force yet. |
On the side forward nuts install about half way to protect threads and find a suitable pry bar and push on studs to lift upper housing away. Or some puck type spacer on top of nut and use threads to push. You can also pry against cav plate to rear pin to help.

You sure its an Alpha, and not a Volvo.... Ohhh.... :evilb:

Thanks guys. Lower unit is off. Had to use a scaper to wedge it off and gently pry it off bit by bit. Small corrosion made it stick.
New problem. Impeller is great. Motor heating up a bit. What's my next possible couse? |
Was the impeller bent over and set. lost its resilience? It should have a date code on it. If it was on there long enough for housing to stick it must be less then great.
