Just hooked up a gauge to a stock 7.4 mpi.
At 3000 rpm I only get 6 pounds. Normal? I have no idea what impeller is in there, only that it was replaced last year. |

Globe impellers are a pretty good product, but their rundry time is cumulative. Once they have reached a total of 15 mins rundry they are shot and need to be replaced as head pressure is severly reduced.
KPM are not defunct as they are still happily trading away in the UK mainly to the commercial market and to their military customers. They were unfortunately another business that got "tricked" and so temporarily pulled out of the US market. |

The new generation of pumps are simply amazing pieces of kit and are all built beyond the SOLAS specifications. They are now so good that many of their commercial customers are having them converted to bilge and deckwash pumps driven via electromagnetic clutches, with the new direct replacement pump for Scania 16l/14l engines capable of shifting 385 litres per minute at 2000RPM. |
I have had the KPM pumps for almost 2 years. No problems so far. I did run them dry 1 time this year after leaving the ball valves shut after flushing. Motors got to 200degrees before I shut them down. Got towed back to ramp and pulled the pumps...no damage to the impellers...so they did do as they said. I hope they come back to the US market...

It is pretty clear that these impellers will not produce the same amount of water pressure the Mercs do.....It amazes me that people would take a chance on these so called "run dry" impellers. Change your impellers once a year and you are good to go. I would never ever take a chance with smoking a motor because of water pressure. Mercs are cheap insurance....imo.
