What do you use to pull engines?

Did our engine swap this weekend. all went well and should have a shakedown run next week.

Had me wondering, what do you use to pull your engines?

i played it safe. Didnt want to overload anything :D

We had planned to use the crawler crane to make the swap, but halfway in mechanical problems took the crane out of service. So instead we set the new motor with the trackhoe.

Have used a tow truck on occasion or a front end loader with a hay bailing spike.

I use a Buddy's Forklift, the side to side movement helps allot.Don't and cant take the hatch off :(just about go's vertical.

I would figure the backhoe would have to much movement at one time ,be kinda jerky?

Our service trucks have Autocranes on them. It's almost like cheating.

offshoredrillin 07-28-2008 06:47 PM

So it would be safe to assume you go deer hunting with a bazooka?

Chris Sunkin 07-28-2008 07:44 PM

Nope. Went boar hunting last year in Georgia- with a knife.

MOBILEMERCMAN 07-28-2008 08:09 PM

Got to love it.

If your good at backhoes like gerry , it piece a cake. gerry took a blower motor out of mikes 38sonic yesterday he had that backhoe going sideways, and up and down it had a slide arm in front of the bucket w2hich is cool and he moved it a just anuff to take preasure off the motor mounts:eek: thats a 1/8th of a inch:D, once again jerry the man.:p that was a complete motor with headers still on!!!!!

PorscheSpeed 07-29-2008 12:13 PM

Still have some rigging to do and final finnishes, like the lines to the remote oil filter hit the flame arrestor, didnt expect that.

The hoe really was better then the crane. You had to deal with the slack and wind with the crane, always fighting with the cable. With the hoe it was just tiny movements, with an oporator doing this for 20 years it helps :D

That's pretty creative, but a regular engine crane in the garage always worked for me. I wouldn't want any of my boats near that scene!

THRILLSEEKER 07-29-2008 12:53 PM

Ive used front end loaders, backhoes, trachoes, and forklifts. A forklift with a chain hoist was by far the smoothest.

f311fr1 07-29-2008 01:17 PM

I have used forklifts, bridge cranes, and wreckers.

I prefer to look at it that most people under-do things.

Run what ya brung

Excavators, cranes, A-frames with chain hoist, big tree with block and tackle, couple a samoans with a 2x4, bridge and the tide, gin pole and last but not least piece by piece by hand. What ever gets the job done:ernaehrung004:
