Hotboat, Donziman, Lee....thanks........actually I was looking for a boat in late 99', and saw an ad "1986 Wellcraft cat, surface drives...needs tlc". These pics are exactly how I bought it. (it only needed a trans that seazed due to a oil leak in the oil cooler line). I remembered in my old boating magazines, that Wellcraft advertised them in the Excalibur line (Hawk, Eagle...etc). In fact I have a pic of one on the back page of a May86 Boating mag.
Its just like what TOMCAT has, but with the KAAMA option where they put in the HardinMarine engines (488cu x 450hp), and the surface drives. From what I know its all original, but, I had to replace the rear sunpad (now its white), because I could not match the material. It has 90hrs on it total. I also had to reshoot the clear on the forward deck over the original starburst graphics. (see readers ride pic).
So like I said, I bought it because it was different, and, I like to "retstore" stuff that has been basically not abused.

There is also one at Fort Apache in North Miami. Nice looking boat. new interior, new floor. close cooled 502mags and #3's
I was looking at it 2 weeks ago. I simply decided a cat wasn't what I wanted for Lake Michigan.
$36k would buy it, no trailer

I chose mine ('02 Sunsation 288, 496HO) based on all around versatility that encompassed hull stength, styling, growing reputation, immaculate gel-coat, trailerability, Mitcher-T paint, fuel economy, value-per-dollar and there's not another to be found nearby.....yet

Wanted a Donzi 33 was I was 15 living at LOTO. Bought a Donzi 16 when I started making money. To me, it has always been Donzi.
Found the Magnum and figured they were in the same family. Wife liked the exclusivity (hull #11 of 35) and I like the lines and knew I could make it look better. Amazingly good shape after 30 years.
Although, I have been spending a lot of time looking at Pantera 28's lately.

'87 Apache 22 Scout w/an outboard on a 24" bracket. the history of apache drew me in, the boat itself hooked me. plus you dont see an apache on every corner in texas. the closest one is probably 3-4 hrs. away. when i get tired of this one, it will be a bigger one or a cigarette.

1. Speed with reliable STOCK power.
2. Ride, I use the boat primarily in 0-3 ft. conditions. I'm not going to say that it rides great in anything bigger.
3. Looks, I think it looks cool!
4. Originality, I have not seen anyone in my area with the same boat.
5. $$$$, the price was right, it fits my budget, doen't use a ton of gas, trailers easy.

I own a 1992 C'Mate 211 Pulse, I first saw one about 6 years ago and thought it was cool looking boat. Know I own one and it is a cool looking boat, there are only a couple of Checkmate's around here so I get a lot of questions at the the boat launchs.

Thanks for all the pics and the feedback, Reck I was there when we took that pic. Cannot wait to get back out on the Bay. That was always one of favorite shots of your boat. Trout, Vortec not step. Yet anyway. Inside joke could not resist. DMAN2
