Didn't Joe also wind up holding the bag for SBR after another of the "bankruptcies" occurred?

BROWNIE 08-07-2008 10:20 AM

I think he was a major sackholder................

boomer 08-07-2008 11:59 AM

Are the boats still around, It was an awesome site.

KNOT-RIGHT 08-07-2008 12:36 PM

also SMITTY PASSED AWAYa few years back:(. He was a funny guy I thought and great throttleman. At the 94 key west races we were talking and I brought up some of his wins and said can I go on a test run I could sit on the back of the canopy:p and in a straight face smitty looked at my wife and said if you don't mind he can sit on my lap:eek::p he was a cool guy.by the way this is airtime on jerrys computor. art

I saw Joe's big 4 engine CUV in Chicago around 1990, being used as a pleasure boat.

Full canopy, 2 seats.

Watching 2 guys anchor it off the Oak Street Beach, and then sit on the fore-deck for the afternoon was about the dumbest thing I've seen done with an ex-race boat.

They also stood it straight up on its tail in New Orleans, and Joe said that for the first time he realized that he could be KILLED doing this. He would not have had an easy time getting out of a submerged boat!

We chased that monster (The 4 engine CUV)in the Hudson River race with the helicopter. Our pilot would climb way up in each turn and dive right down next to it as it rocketed past, we had a terminal velocity in the dives of about 130.... They went past us with 30 mph to spare......... We had to short cut the course just to get close up video of it for a few seconds on each straightaway.

micheal friedman purchased it several years back.. i had the pleasure of loading all the stuff from the team . when he purcahsed it. it took 4 semi trailers full , to get all the support stuff, equipment, and extra parts. we took the boat from st louis to miami. then i brought it to chicago. thats when i got the pleasure to drive it down the river "friday afternoon" to lake michagan.. what a rush . it is exactly like it was.. that boat has been presevered perfectly.. not everyday you get to drive a piece like that..

He won an award for Jester being the "most run" boat in the history of the FL Powerboat club. He ran it to the Bahamas last month and MarK Berman made the run over in a cruiser. Two cool guys with tons of powerboat history/stories.

The Bertram is named DynaSoar........

Good Job. How About The "dynasoar"

ultimate cat 08-08-2008 11:16 AM

Lets Try For The "declawed" Skater?

underpressure 08-11-2008 09:28 AM

Don't forget the rubber boat, his inflatable.

Declawed was the Miller raceboat and Bertram was a tribute to one of the Benihana boats, he used to call it Benihaha
