There are very few TRUE offshore races anymore that are covered with major video and commentary thus hard to find the great footage like we used to see There is still some recent cool stuff out there but you have to dig deep and usually does not have good commentary to go with it

BRING BACK OFFSHORE and BRING BACK RICH LUHRS

Nothing like back in the day Racing
There are offshore races today that are not video taped? They are on cable tv these days.

On thing I noticed, in the Miami to KW run, you can get perspective as to how rough the water was. The view from the front, back towards the oncoming boats, shows how snotty the condition are.

Almost all of the vids are taken from the side, which is a nice way to show how purdy a boat is, but it's impossible to tell what the conditions are generally.

As a complete novice in this area, one boat that has always impressed me in the vids is Active Thunder. Seeing a small AT28 crash through waves next to much bigger boats gives some perspective into what kind of hull they make. I'm sure there are other too, but the AT looks like it packs a darn good hull.

The lack of many rough water videos, has nothing to do with anything other than the difficulty there is with trying to film a good one.

Unless you have a helicopter, it's pretty tough to hold the camera AND hang on when you're out playing in truly big water. Videos taken from within the boat, end up looking like chit since you can't hold the camera steady enough without busting your face on something.

There are quite a few helicopter videos of lots of these boats in rough water, but they are owned by Poker Runs America & FPC, so we can't post them without permission. They also cut out most of the big water stuff from Sarasota, etc, since that type of footage doesn't translate to the Poker Run video that they give you very well.

Hey Mark!

I'm sure there's SOME way to get raw footage from them, I just haven't tried very hard.

I wanted the raw footage of the Chicago Poker Run in 07, but couldn't ever get anyone to really help me get it from the people that filmed it. I just blew it off after awhile.

The water that year was pretty damn rough, & Jim Lee & I ran together for awhile that day, so I wanted the footage just to have for myself. There were a lot of other big boats on that run that had to have gotten on film running big water as well. You were in the First Mohican that day, not sure if you remember, but it was really rough out on Lake Michigan that day.

There also has to be some great footage of almost every type of offshore boat ever made, running from Sunshine Key to Key West on the FPC runs each Fall. There have been some years where that last stretch was ROUGH, and I know there were helocopters filming from above, so the footage is somewhere.
