When I blew my 500efi motor (my fault) I asked Norm Teague to show me corrosion from my use in the salt world. With the motor torn down, we could not find any signs of rust/corrosion.

This motor had 4 years of salt use....with only fresh water flushing after each use. Not sure salt away is really needed - is does sound nice.

I always just use fresh water for 5-10 minutes. I also have used Dawn or any other liquid hand soap when I left it in the saltwater for more than a day.

how do you get the dawn in, just dump it in the hose

Bill I hate to hear about these issues you are having. Thanks for sharing with us all in hopes that others will be able to prevent this.

Here is the immediate solution to your problem.

They have AFR coated heads!!!!

I will deliver tomorrow and you can be running this weekend even faster then before!

You mention they were rebuilt in 05'? If they're rebuilt then the heads/block are still used... How old were the heads before the rebuild?

FYI, I was in the store the other day and looking to buy some salt away and the owner of the store said he believes they're out of business???

Sorry about your bad luck Bill. I flushed my rig with salt-away one time last winter in Florida when it was new and did not like what it looked like when it came out the exhaust and decided to never use it again. Anything that can counteract salt has to be some some harsh chit. This winter in Fl I flushed with straight water on each motor for 10 mins. then cleaned my strainers and shot a half of bottle of dawn in each one then fired them back up till all the soap was gone from the exhaust. Luckily in the summer I'm far enough up river where I never have to flush the AT when we get back from the Bay. I'm the 3rd owner of my Mastercraft here on the Chickahominy and after 18 yrs. it's still got the original manifolds.
I hope we will at least see you at the party this weekend :drink:

What is the Dawn supposed to do? I use salt away every couple of flushes and have not seen any problems with my 500 efi's
